hi all

when i first purchased my macbook (2.1ghz, 1gb ram), it was pretty fast. everything loaded nicely and it was great

however, recently, it's gotten a bit slower. i used to never see the rainbow spinning wheel but now i constantly see it. also, apps take a lot longer to load now than they used to. particular app of concern is safari. sometimes this is excruciatingly slow, and i'll need to reset it. why is this?

also....neooffice and windows2008 take SOOOOOOOO long to load, is this normal? when i used to use windows, they would take about a second or two to load, but on my macbook...they seriously take about 10 seconds to load up. is this normal?

thanks for answering my questions...

do you think it's because i only have 1gb ram? i haven't added too many additionals applications since the beginning.

Well it is very normal. The more you use your laptop the more your hard drive gets full so the more time it needs to do stuff.

Maybe upgrading to a higher Ram will do good!!😉😀

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder and see if there is a process that is taking a lot of your CPU power.

Because Safari's cache gets badly fragmented. You can follow the script at this link to defrag it. Best if you copy and paste it so there are no typos. Most Mac-tards just keep emptying the cache, which never fixes the problem. Once you defrag the Safari cache, you won't need to do it again for a long time.

main menu is my maintenance application of choice.

Also, sadly, office '08 is just slow - this is normal. I think 10 seconds is faster than it loads on my macbook. 🙁

up the ram! up the ram! up the ram!

1gb is just not normal these days. especially in the pc world all laptops are comin with 3 gb. ( apple wont do more than one standard, so they can get $$ out of you!)

a simple ram upgrade to 2 or more will make all the difference.

as for why windows office is so slow
i believe it has something to do w/ the way the program was written

i think it was something along the lines of, office was written for windows.. not macs thats why its so freakin slow on osx ( i know i hate it) but thats why keynote/pages runs a lot faster
same w/ adobe flash (BOOOO!)

  • repair permissions (ignore any error messages)
  • repair your hard drive until no errors are shown
  • Reset Safari from Safari's menu
  • run Onyx's Automation feature
  • reboot
  • open all applications to recache
  • reboot to organise caches
