Installation failed, then it. Restarted to a black screen with a flashing _
If I hold the alt key it does nothing. I took the hdd out which I put the windows partition on and left my ssd in which has osx on, holding alt does nothing but this time I get a white screen for ages then it goes to a black screen saying no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key.
Mac 10.8 on ssd in optibay and partition where I attempted windows installation in original bay.

Option key should bring up the boot select screen. Make sure you're holding it down BEFORE the chime. I usually press and hold it at the same time I hit the power button.

Do you have access to another Mac where you could create a bootable 10.8 USB drive? Maybe you could use one of those to select your boot disk.

I just took out both drives, put the ssd in the original slot and if I hold option I get the boot select screen. If I turn it off and on agagin without holding option I get the "no bootable device screen again

It just started up fine with only the ssd in. Going to remove the partition now via USB and it them back into previous configuration. Wish me luck!

Hold down alt and boot into OSX, then in system prefs change the boot selection to OSX, when you install windows it will sometimes default to windows thus if you don't hold down ALT then you get stuck booting to windows or a black screen.

when i had the ssd back in the optibay i held down alt and rather than the apple popping up i got a no entry sign.
will only work with ssd in the main bay and hdd in optibay. worked fine the other way round earlier. odd
