Hey guys,

This morning, I was awoken from sleep by my Macbook making the start up tone. I was confused because the night before, I put the computer in sleep mode. When I woke up, my computer was at the login prompt screen. The weird thing, though, is that it showed the Yosemite stock desktop background which I changed quite a while ago.

All of my applications were up and left as is the night before. Nothing was lost from my computer. But I was logged out of YouTube which I keep automatically logged in.

What could be the reason for this? No update took place, because I still have a notification for an update like I did last night. Nothing was installed that I know of. The desktop background image for my external monitor changed, and I had to change it back. My remapped modifier keys did not change.

Is this any cause for concern? The machine is a brand new mid 2014 rMBP that I bought in early August. It's connected to a Thunderbolt Display.

Thanks.

Thanks.

It could just be a little sleep/wake glitch or something could have been running in the background that shut down or crashed and caused it to restart. I would not worry too much unless it happens again.

Nothing crashed, though. And would that be enough to restart my entire computer?

Kernel panic will restart the machine. Did you get a report?

No report, no nothing. Just woke up to the tone of the computer starting up. Then was introduced to the login prompt screen. With a changed external monitor background.

It hasn't happened since. But I want to know if this is something I should be worried about. As the machine is brand new.

Since you are concerned, make an appointment at an Apple store to have it checked. Apple techs with test software can give you a much better evaluation than people guessing on the internet.
