I was trying to burn some cds and dvds today and everytime I would command my laptop to burn it would tell me an error has occured. It would say they laser was unable to caliberate or give me some error number. I have to mention though that I was able to burn a few days ago so I was surprised it said that. Apart from that my drive is functioning properly

Which application are you using? Finder or Toast or ...?

Could you post a screen shot of the errors or post the error code?

Have you installed any software lately?

I just started having the same problem. I can play a DVD, but not burn.

Matshita DVD drives aren't the greatest. Try burning your CD at the lowest speed possible (2x for DVD and 8x for CD I think) in order to reduce the risk of error.

I had this problem too, but with a unibody MacBook. I took it in to my local Apple store and they replaced the SuperDrive.

What kind of media are you using (as in what brand)? Also is the surface level?
