Wow, I am shocked and relieved to hear this news. I always wondered what it was, and thought maybe it was my fan, because I have had issues with the fan before. Awesomesauce!

You dont need to wait at all...the noise is the Sudden Motion Sensor parking the heads on the HDD, which is stopping any chance of damage. Its doing its job.

Really? I was told not to move it by one of those genius bar guys. This is great! No more waiting!! thanks alot.

The noise is the drive parking the heads so it cant cause damage...which means SMS is working. Its fine to move it but you shouldnt be jarring it around or shaking it. Another thing if you change hibernatemode to 0 it will stop it from saving ram to hdd, save you whatever your ram size is off the hdd(if you have 8gb of ram, you will gain 8gb of hdd space) and sleeps almost instantly.

weird noise

I have had my MBP since 12/12 and from day one it makes a strange noise--similar to the noise when you empty the trash bin on a Windows computer. What the heck is the noise?

Refer to this video for the fix. It's basically a small grounding bar (located at one one for the more sensitive locations of the MBP) making metal on metal noise when the bottom case flexes. I would suggest removing it and placing it in a zip lock bag, preferably in a safe place, such as the box your computer came in for safe keeping to reinstall if you ever have to bring your machine in for repairs. This will technically void your warranty, but as long as you don't damage anything when opening your computer–– Apple will be none the wiser to you doing anything. I have personally have had in warranty work done since taking the grounding bar off with no issues from the genius bar. Removing the bar hasn't caused any adverse affects either as of yet.
