I'm guessing it's my HDD heads parking themselves when detecting motion, but
it's way too sensitive. Anyone have experience with this? Or could it be something else? Thanks... :apple:

It must've been the Sudden Motion Detector parking the heads.

I turned that feature off in Terminal and it doesn't make the sound anymore.

It's a judgment call - I am so sick of hearing it. :p

Sorry if there were already threads on this subject and I hope this helps someone doing a search in the future - or the past, depending on your talents. :)

Yep, it's the SMS. Apple Portables: Hard drives and noise

It's not a good idea to turn it off, as it's there to protect your drive from damage due to impacts.
