Applecare isn't insurance, it wouldn't help.

lmao, funny. (on the applecare being insurance, not laughing on the mbp being run over)

Pics please

It's really funny how these problems happen with MBP's most of the time. I'm constantly hearing on this forum stories about MBP's being abused by other kids at school, run over, being pissed on (by animals) and stuff, I never here that with macbooks, which in my opinion, would be more expected.

Lmao being pissed on? by people or pets? (i would say animals but a person pissing on a MBP or anything of that nature is classified as or worse than an "animal" lol)

that reminds me of a time my friend got brand new MacPro sometime in April last year and during the summer one of his cats pissed in the back of it, it went through the bottom fan, didnt realize it until it started smelling and had to replace i think one of the riser dimms, as after awhile never noticed it was not reading the memory on the bottom DIMM. geez.

i guess some cats = hate macpros?

lol

ANYWAY....back on topic, Pics please, how did it get run over by a car anyway?

and yes what kind of case is this, id like one for my MBPand anything else of high value!

I edited my post, some confusion.

I prefer to buy from Apple, especially because I almost always BTO, but Best Buy's warranty is far superior and would cover accidental damage (even if it's your fault). That's just for future reference for anyone on here who know's that they're clumsy or accident prone. That's my recommendation.

Seriously? Is that a non-standard warranty? Usually the big box retailers have even worse policies than Apple (yep both of them use it as a massive profit center).

I used to work at Futureshop and boy do they indoctrinate you to press it on the customers, must be almost pure profit for them. Since they're owned by BB, they got very similar policies, and their warranties only extended the manufacturers warranty against manufacturing defect up to 3 years (including the included free 1 year!) not accidental damage.

There's a reason no one covers accidental damage: people would throw their laptops down a flight of stairs to get a new one with no repurcussions..

I worked for Best Buy for 3 years, and accidental damage is certainly not covered under their warranty. I am 100% sure of this. It covers the same as AppleCare does, which is just if the product goes bad due to manufacturer defect or normal wear and tear.

Here's the pics. Not as bad as it sounded.. I'm glad I drive a mini cooper.
Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Ouch. Despite what you said I REALLY wanna know what happened haha. Place it on the ground and forget to put it in your trunk?? Haha.

Sorry for your partial loss, I would definitely start backing up your hard drive and get a quote to have it fixed.

What was your precious macbook pro doing on the ground by your car anyway? I just don't see how I could ever possible run over a laptop. I would never just put a laptop on the ground outside in the first place. You don't deserve to have a mac (j/k).

I am not going to say anything!

I'm really suprised the screen is absolutely fine. From what it looks like, (though I'm probably wrong) I need to get a new case, and slot drive.

That's what I thought. It's the biggest rip-off (short of gift cards) that the corporations have invented to upsell warranties to cover mysterious manufacturer defects (that they really should be protecting you against anyways)...

I wouldn't buy it myself. I think the odds of some expensive component catastrophically failing because of a manufacturing defect (rather than use) is slim to none (after 1 year...why fail on day 366 vs 365?). Certainly not worth 300$ and the use I could of had out of that money.

OP: [extremely bad advice] Why not run over your MBP on the both edges to even it out? [/extremely bad advice]

Seriously though, Im amazed its functional. I guess the aluminum deforming absorbs alot of the force..

I want to open it so bad to check if anything else is damaged..
But I'm afraid I won't be able to get it back on.

pics almost look photoshopped :) I expected a lot worse, sorry about the whole situation though and yes why was it on the ground to begin with?

I am not going to say anything!

Aww come on!! Haha. We have all left a fresh cup of coffee on our car and drove away before. You just left your coffee AND your laptop.

To be honoest I am extremely curious because I want to know if it is a mistake anybody can make, or if it really was something like leaving a cup of coffee on your roof.

And stop backing up your car.

Not a MBP i know but about a year ago i bought a DVD player unpacked it & left it on the floor, went out the room for a couple of minutes to get a beer came back and found my pooch just putting his back leg down on the floor after pissing all over it NOT A HAPPY CHAPPY

From the pictures that you posted, it looks like you would be able to take off the keyboard cover and be able to bend the bottom portion back out (with some tools to help). Afterwards I believe you can still put it back on without any real problems. Two screws in the front next to the lid clip, thats right behind the battery area (you see the 2 screws after taking out the battery) may be a little hard but thats based on the pictures I see.

Now whether you want to or not is a different matter.

I know it's been a long while now since this has happened, but it's been on 24/7 since then.. and it's been working fine.

I got the guts to open it up today too..
Removing the bottom case is super confusing, so I didn't go through all that.. I went all the way to the step to remove the super drive. I did so, and hammed the bottom case so it wasn't bent. The actual optical drive slot (not on the superdrive, but the case) is a little touch to open up.. and it's not at where I'd like it to be yet. But suprisingly, the superdrive still works.

So.. my macbook pro was ran over by a car, while it was in sleep mode, and NOTHING broke. :)
