This is the second time it's happened this month. I had enough battery. It just BANG turned off without warning. Can I look in record logs for something to help me understand what happened? I worry this might be a serious, serious problem and I dont know how to go about evaluating it.

There is no restart in this log here but a few remarks:

One, you don't need a virus scanner on a Mac, although the virus scanner you use is the best option for a Mac it is not needed.
If you want to scan the Mac do so manually, yours is continuously running and you can switch this behaviour off in ClamXav.

Second, you have a lot of these "3/31/13 10:52:44.745 AM com.apple.launchd: (com.apple.launchd.peruser.32645[97497]) getpwuid("32645") failed" , now I do not know what the peruser does but you have way to many, I have them but not every second or so.

You should look if you have a kernel Panic log, the place to look is or /Library/Logs or /var/private/log.

There seems to be some problem with this Google software component:

It just happened again this morning. It turned off. I turned it back on and it turned off again. I figured I'd try and reset the SMC as I heard that could be one answer. I did it. I tried to turn it on again and I heard the on chime ring, ring a 2nd time while the screen went gray, then for 1 second the computer made these HORRIBLE static-y sounds, and then it shut off. I thought it was totally fried. But, after trying to turn it on again 20 minutes later, it went on.

It's turned off each time with me unplugged. I wonder if that's part of it.

So, any thoughts for what I should do from here? I'm not sure what to try and do to solve the problem. I'm attaching as a text file the console messages from when it was shutting off.

I'm really worried my computer is going to just crap out at any moment now so any help or advice would be great.

    I'm using OS 10.7.4 on a 17 inch MBP from 2009.

This is not a crash Log, it's the System Log.

Can't find much, the crash log involves the same process, HelpD and one of the crashlog times is also in the System log, the other one is not since your System Log stops before this time.

The first crash did not crash the Mac, the time of the crash was 09:07:33 and you can see for yourself in the System log it still worked afterwards.

The Helpd process is AFAIK just for getting help on the Mac, in the crash report it points to the switch Application inside your Application folder, can't find the file:

4/2/13 9:06:58.753 AM helpd: Could not find access page in directory /Applications/ Switch.app/Contents/Resources/help
    4/2/13 9:07:07.324 AM rpc.lockd: can't contact statd, 100024 RPC: Unknown host
    4/2/13 9:07:22.426 AM rpc.lockd: can't contact statd, 100024 RPC: Unknown host
    4/2/13 9:07:38.530 AM rpc.lockd: can't contact statd, 100024 RPC: Unknown host

Now, as you can see this did not kernel Panic the Mac, is there a Panic log in those same folder, if so post here please.

Out of interest every time it has suddenly shut down has it been running on a power adaptor or battery?

Well, it happened this morning with the chord in. I used Battery Health but it says it's OK. I have no idea what more to do. Any thoughts for self-diagnosing this? Again today, it shut off and when I tried to turn it on, it gave the on-chime, gave it again as the screen went grey, made staticy noise, and then shut off after one second.

I also can't find a crash log for today.

Well you have already done the obvious things. I thought for a moment it might be a failing battery, but if it happening when the power cord is plugged in then clearly not the battery. It sounds like it just turns off, rather than powering down, which sounds like you have a hardware, rather than a software problem.

You can try backing up the computer if you have not done so already and reinstall the OS, but it sounds like it needs to go into the repair shop, as I don't think the problem is software related.

It sounds like a supply problem. You could try removing the battery and running it off of the external supply only and see if it's stable. If it's stable there's likely something wrong with the battery OR the charging circuitry associated with the battery. You will need to test it for days to confirm this. If shutdown continues, it might mean the thermal sensors on the power supply have malfunctioned and are reporting an overheating problem to the system when one doesn't exist. There are a myriad of other problems that can occur related to the supply as well, none of them being good.

I'd make sure you can get a good, clean backup, if possible. AHT tests should be run as well but I'm not sure how extensive they are at looking at supply problems.
