I figured a new model entirely equals a new color.😀

I think that Silver, Space Grey and Gold have been around for a while in the MBA line, and maybe also the pink -- i.e., Rose Gold..... I haven't checked to see what the current MBA line offers in colors, but those would be my guesses. I know that for a while those four colors were offered with the 12" MacBook when it was still available on the market. This is not quite like an iPhone where we get some interesting new color offerings every other year or so. I LOVE my subtle grey-green iPhone 11 Pro!

Overall, I'm a black or Space Grey girl and have been for quite a while. In the iPhone, while I really liked the white backs that were being offered some years ago I did not like the white fronts (bezels) and so always went with the black front, which usually meant a black or space grey iPhone. With the MacBook, when I bought one in 2017 I liked the Space Grey look of it, and so went with that rather than with silver or gold or rose gold. In 2018 when I was ready to get my current MBP I didn't hesitate to go with Space Grey again, and now I have the space grey external keyboard and the space grey Magic Mouse II that I use with it as well. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to silver, though, if at some point the Space Grey became no longer available. I am not too keen on gold or rose gold, though, for any computer, but that is just me and my personal preferences.

All that said, it is really cool that these days we do have choices in colors for our computers, something which we use on a daily basis and which is so much a part of our lives.....

Rose Gold is not available as a Mac color option in the current product line (source: shop.apple.com).

There are fewer color options today than many other times in the Mac's history.

But don't take my word. Just visit Apple.com. Speculating about available color options really should not be a discussion online. Bondi Blue is not a current option.

Thanks, Erehy Dobon, you've done the looking that I was too lazy and too busy to get to doing! Now that I think of it, I believe that Rose Gold was not-so-long-ago eliminated as one of the color choices even on the 12" MacBook a while back, so it must not have been a popular color.

Personally, I would be so, so delighted if we were offered Tangerine again, I'd snap up a Tangerine MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro at the flick of an eyelash! I've always regretted that I was not an Apple user at the time Tangerine and Bondi Blue were among the colorful offerings......

I’m going somewhere else, not an Apple store. Since I’m making another purchase. Maybe two total. maybe I’ll ask here.

I have had a case/bag since 2008 roughly. It’s in excellent shape. It’s only held the 13.3 inch MBP, the cords, and my external hard drive. I don’t see a reason to replace that just because.

Your computer bag should work just fine for your new machine, too, although it will be a little large for it, actually, since the MBA will be thinner and the dimensions will be somewhat different than the 2012 MBP. I"m still using the various ones I got for earlier, now long-gone MBPs or MBAs.....

I was thinking that. I was thinking it would be too thin. I’ll ask for an opinion of someone if there is someone in the department when we go.

Yes, the new MBA will definitely be significantly thinner than your earlier MBP and depending upon the type of bag or case you like and currently have, it may or may not be an issue. If you prefer a snug-fitting case or sleeve, then it would be a problem. If it is a shoulder bag or backpack kind of thing which provides pockets and room to carry other items such as the charger and the external drive, then probably the thinness of the MBA wouldn't make a difference one way or the other.

I have a couple of the sleeves/cases that are meant to be snug-fitting, and while they indeed fit snugly around my older MBPs back in the day, my current machines are definitely too thin, but it is not a critical issue since I only use the sleeve type case when traveling, as I put the machine in it and then into my suitcase, where it is further protected by my packed clothing. If I'm going out-and-about in town, say going to spend some time with a friend and taking my computer with me, or (not so much fun) taking it to the Genius Bar for some reason, I then use one of my bags that has a shoulder strap and room for accessories. I also have various shoulder bags and sleeves for my iPads, too, and again those devices have also varied in size through the years. My 12.9" iPad and my 12" MacBook can both use the same carrying case or bag! The iPad Mini 5 fits nicely into the carrying case I bought for my first-generation iPad Mini some years ago, and/or it also fits comfortably into some of my purses as well.

I’ll look at them if I decide to add one. I’m glad I’m in a position where I’m not going shopping just to shop. Though, I don’t remember the last time I bought anything.

Yes, this shutdown has really put the brakes on a lot of us when it comes to going shopping just for something to do, when we then come home with impulse purchases, and it also has certainly saved on gas since most of us are not just jumping in the car and driving off to a store here, a store there, the mall a bit further away, etc., etc..... Back in early March, just prior to when all of this hit, I stopped in at the local gas station and filled my tank as it was down to about a quarter full and I needed gas. On Friday when I went out to go to the grocery store, as is my habit, I glanced at the various dials on the dashboard and noted with interest that I've still got a completely full tank of gas -- unsurprising when I could count on one hand the number of times I'd driven since that day back in March: four! My grocery store is only about a mile and a half down the road and that's the only place I have driven (except on Friday, I needed to go to the PO, too). Usually during the winter I don't drive a lot, but normally in spring, summer or fall, I like to get in the car and go places, do things.... Well, not THIS spring and most likely not THIS summer or maybe even fall.....

Thank goodness for Amazon and other places on the web, where I have been able to order some essential items online!

Things are getting interesting. Growdless baseball games and likely no summer Olympics either.

Yes, it'll be strange for the players doing their usual games and not hearing the cheers of crowds watching them! It will be very interesting to see whether or not the summer Olympics, now having been postponed until summer of 2021, will actually finally just be canceled altogether.....I wouldn't be surprised if that does happen. I feel bad for all the athletes who work so hard at their training, day after day after day, year after year.....and now this has happened, crushing the dream for some of them while leaving a lot of uncertainty for others and of course they have to keep up with their training in case the games still do go on in 2021.

If they do have crowdless games, the cleaning crew will have an easy job. It’d be funny if they left the home run balls in the stands until the end of the season.

What does early, mid, and late mean? For example, the current Macs being sold are the mid-2020 models. I’m a bit hesitant about buying a mid-2020 model only because I’ve had bad luck with the last two MBP’s I’ve owned.
Are there hardware or software improvements in the release models, or is it related to stock gains?

The label indicates the time of the year and the year the particular Mac was announced and released for sale by Apple. The label is commonly used to identify the generationof the Mac model (just like various iPhones are commonly differentiated by their marketing name such as iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone XS etc.)

It does not represent the date of production. Since it is a model identifier, the label remains the same for all the Macs produced till an update/upgrade to the model is announced. The nomenclature generally used is Early, Mid or Latedepending on the time of the year the model was released appended with the year of release.

For e.g. the last model of Mac mini released by Apple is labelled Late 2018 as it was released in November 2018. The model it superseded is Late 2014 as it was originally released in October 2014. All Mac minis produced during the four year period were labelled Late 2014 and saw no updates/upgrades from Apple whatsoever.

The screen of the MBA I want looks like this. What color are the keys on the keyboard? The same color?

The keyboards are black on all the MacBook Air models.

Would Apple Care be with adding also?

I always get the AppleCare, if nothing else it gives me peace of mind. If you purchase the MacBook Air it at Costco they give you a second year of warranty support. I have never used the Costco warranty so I don’t know how it would work with AppleCare.

Wait a minute -- in that photo, that's the older MBA, with the older, larger, silver bezels..... The new 2020 MBA has the thinner, black bezels such as shown in your earlier post on page 2 of this thread. The screen will be a retina screen, as all Apple laptops are now, and as Taz Mangus says, the keys are all black on all of the current MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs. It's been a long time now since Apple used the silvery-grey keys that we had on the older MacBook Pros.....

I heartily second the recommendation of getting AppleCare! Provides good peace of mind. I always get AppleCare on my devices, always build that into the overall cost of whatever it is I'm buying.

I’ll think about it. It looks like I’ll have more time to add to what I budgeted for a macbook. I was ready before the lockdown began.

Thank you. 😀

I’ll let you know what I do when I do go. It seems it’s going to be awhile.

I was looking around again and I have a question because obviously I can’t figure it out myself.

I’m not sure if you are familiar with MBP’s and how they have a black bar that starts from the outside of the screen and is maybe an inch tall? Can it be removed by altering the screen resolution size. (So what I’m doing takes up the whole screen.)

What I’m asking, is the black bar there permanently or can it be removed by altering the screen resolution?

That black bar is part of the LCD screen assembly and can’t be removed on the 13” and 15” models. The 16” MacBook Pro reduced that black area down.

The black bar is the bezel. You'll get used to it after a while.....and yes, of course you can still fill your screen with the entire window if you want to do so.
Thank you. Can you send me a private message telling me how I can do that to save for later. From what I think you are telling me is I can either reduce the black border or remove it entirely. (Something I didn’t know I could do.)

The black boarder, to me, is like the optional DVD choice of wide screen viewing, you can opt out of using it. Am I right?

The black border can't be reduced, it is part of the LCD screen assembly. It is the physical bezel around the LCD screen.
