y go from wantin a sub notebook to a 15er :S wudnt a mb be smaller and more suitable

Well I'm using my brother's MacBook at the minute, and if they somehow shrink all (or most) of MBP's offerings into a 13 inch unit, I'd be set.

If not, I'd appreciate all the little extras of the MBP (keyboard, full DVI, fw800, screen finish etc)

Well, the 12" PowerBook G4 had fw800, dedicated nVidia GeForce GPU and weighed 4.6lbs, with mini DVI and no illuminated keyboard, but surely technology has gotten a bit better by now??

I think a <15" MBP is easily possible in this day and age

ive got a 12 powerbook that belongs to my school ive been usin with my mbp, and if it had all the features, or atleast more, form the mbp id be wanting one. the size is alot more convenient. and if i could hook it up to the best monitor possible who could tell the difference? that way when you needed the huge screen, just hook it up to the huge screen

I've hooked my 12" PB up to a 60" HDTV. Everything worked like butter.

I think the main reason for getting an ultra portable would be a graphics card, saying that, i have never used a standard MacBook with Photoshop or any movie software, i did use my old iBook, and that was pretty slow!!

Hi, i am just wondering where rumors stand for a new macbook/pro/nano release this january...

... my sister is wanting to get which ever one is cheapest (macbook i expect) and wondering weather to wait, if so, how long?

thanks

If the Nano does come into existence, it likely won't look anything like the current MacBooks or MacBook Pros. I'm guessing that it would launch the next generation of notebook design and the other models would follow its design as they are refreshed.

This is the exact reason why I think that the entire macbook pro line is getting a major update/refresh in January. With a new product in the pipeline with a new fresh design, I think Apple will use it as a springboard/base and introduce a revamped pro-line with all new macbook pro's, mac pro's and cinema displays. Refreshing the look of their pro-line series, giving it new power, and new features that really outstep the competition. That's my 5 cents.

That's an interesting theory. Wouldn't hurt if that was actually the case :D

I do like the idea of getting a new pro line, the Mac Pro has to see an update soon, the MacBook Pro is nearly a 2 year old design, and is taken from a PowerBook, which is older still. Cinema displays are also old, and thick, with no iSights.

Now... the MacBook, in the last few months, we have seen white being taken out of all of apples products, no white iPod, no white iMac, does this mean that white will be taken away from the MacBook, is aluminum the new consumer material? if so, how will the pro-line be differentiated? perhaps something better than aluminum?

Consumer Products:
Mac Mini - Old Design - Aluminum
iMac - New Design - Aluminum/Black Glass
iPhone - Fairly New Design - Aluminum/Black Glass
iPod Touch - New Design - Metal/Black Glass
iPod Classic - New Design - Aluminum
iPod Nano - New Design - Aluminum
iPod Shuffle - Newish Design - Aluminum
MacBook - Old Design - Plastic

Pro Line/Top Line
MacBook Pro - Old Design - Aluminum
Mac Pro - Old Design - Aluminum

Here's one I made earlier - magnetic latch, no optical drive, 13.3" matte, 128MB graphics, 0.89 inches thin, 4lbs... :D

I would have been *very* tempted if they'd gone with something like this. Of course, I'd have skipped your version due to the lack of an optical drive, but in terms of looks, this wasn't bad. In fact, my prediction would have looked exactly like this--a 13.3" MBP--with similar stats to the other MBPs in the line (2.2ghz c2d, graphics card, 2gb memory, 120gb hard drive, Superdrive). Priced at the MBA's price, this could easily have become the successor to the 12" Powerbook.

 Wow it was .13" thinner and 1lb lighter than my prediction :D

MacBook GPU and glossy screen... :( still, I think Air erased any chance of a 13" Pro, too bad.
