So the title isnt completely accurate. What actually happened, was I recorded a movie on my digital camera SD card, it is a canon, and then I accidentally deleted it! I was able to recover the file, it is 1 gb large, but it is a jpg file! I know it is the movie because it is so large, but for some reason it recovered with the jpg, not mov. SO, I googled, and read some articles about just changing the ending to "mov". I did, and after waiting a few minutes while my computer took forever to process it, I opened the file, but it only shows the very first frame of my movie, and thats it. I am wondering if there is a way to extract the video from the jpg file, since i know it is in there. (or could it be gone, and the 1 gb is just nothing?) I have tried changing the endings to .mov, .mp4, .mpg, and none of them work. They all just show the very first frame and last only about 3 seconds of the same frame as a movie.

please, if there is a program I could download, or something I could buy to extract the video or convert it from jpeg to mov, that would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you've recovered a merged photo and video - or several. Data recovery software doesn't always work. You might be out of luck.

it opens in Quicktime and shows itself as a Quicktime file. It also opens in VLC if i tell it to. But the image is just the very first frame of my actual movie...and then it "plays" but it only shows the first frame, and nothing else. there is no sound either. And it also only "plays" for a few seconds, not the full length of the movie. Any ideas what's going on?
