Not a green tint. Fully GREEN. Like looking at a monochrome monitor from 1982.

My iphone 3gs screen looks normal.

Can anything be done? It is almost unusable with polarized sunglasses.

Mine doesn't do that at all. I actually find the 4S performance with polarized sunglasses significantly better than the iPhone 4.

There is an SLIGHT green tint when looking at the screen in portrait mode, but very minimal. My old iPhone 4 looked fine in portrait but got very dark in landscape. This one doesn't do that at all. Very happy.

I think you should take yours to the Apple store. It might be just a different batch of screens, but since is inconsistent, they should replace it for you.

What color iPhone is it? I've heard that the whites have this issue.

your issue is the polarized sunglasses you asked what can be done they gave a reasonable response.... remove the item causing the problem...... problem solved

White iPhones have a uv protective coating that is put on to protect the white from sun damage, which would turn it yellow.

However this also creates an issue with sunglasses as it interacts with the if coating.

Do you know if this coating is above or below the glass?

I don't think it's just the white phones. Looked at my screen (black 4s) today wearing a pair of oakleys and I my screen looked like what the OP described.

FYI: I then took off the sunglasses.:D

For those of us with prescription sunglasses, taking them off is not always an option. My 4S is black and the screen looks awful through my sunglasses. My iPhone 4 screen was perfect.

I noticed the same problem, except in my case the situation was starting to give me a migraine. I'm just going to have to either take them off or switch to non-polarized. :( The situation makes me sad, because I really need the polarized lenses.

I have a ATT 4S and my dad has a Verizon 4S. The ATT is green through my poloarized sunglasses but the Verizon is not. Both phones are black. My old 4, 3GS and 3G never had that issue. :(

Do you have proof of this? I find it BS.

Not happy

How is it that this problem goes away when you put on the original plastic protector supplied by apple but not from an aftermarket screen protector?

he makes a valid point.... how is that trolling? your issue is the polarized sunglasses you asked what can be done they gave a reasonable response.... remove the item causing the problem...... problem solved

and you are his lawyer? i have the same problem and ive been told over the phone that apple will replace my iphone 4s, so agreeing with the other troll that we should take off our expensive prescription sunglasses shows your lack of empathy and you shouldnt come to forums like this for a bit of a laugh, and instead try to help!!!

ive got a black and a white and they both go green in portait front on and a pinkish purple in landscape with both my wifes and my sunglasses, apple said they will replace, funny enough when i put the original plastic protector that comes with the phone over my screen the problem goes away

I think people should get a life if all they can complain about is what color their screen turns when they put on their sunglasses. Good grief people. My HVAC screen in my car is almost completely unreadable if I look at it in a certain way with my sunglasses on but I sure don't expect the manufacturer to give me a new car because of that.
SHEESH!

then why does vodafone and apple in australia recognise the problem and are willing to replace??
dont all iphones have an lcd??
why havent we had this issue before??
why should we put up and shut up and not demand a replacement??
i would have got my car dealer to throw in a pair of new glasses, but you probably bought your car from a company with a millionth of the reputation of quality and superior user experience than apple!!!!
in new south wales australia we have probably the best consumer rights in the world, not only will vodafone replace any faulty unit before 28 days but i also have apple itself to go to!

It's safer than drugs. Cheaper too.

how much do the drugs u take cost??
go find another thread to troll on!

FYI, I have found that SOME clear screen protectors will correct this problem. I tried the cheapo free one from an Incipio case and it worked. Anti glare ones seem not to.

To those that have this problem. When your LCD is off does it look green/green tint in the sun/light?
I have two phones here one has this the other doesn't.

are both your phones 4S?

One is my original phone, which has a green coating on the LCD when the screen is off and has a sub par screen.

The screen looks like there is too much green contrast and a gamma of 1.8 when I look at a black screen the black is very washed out and if I view it off axis the back light looks greenish yellow and too bright (yet if I reduce brightness the screen is extremely dull).

The other one is my replacement, which has a great screen and a coating on the lcd which looks a bit purple when it is off and view in the light.

When viewed off axis blacks have a slight purple tinge that is the same with my LG IPS LED LCD I have in the kitchen.
