My iphone 12 pro model is A2048 and number is 5GLL3ZA/A this is unusual because according to the iphone wiki

“The first letter in the model number represents the source of the device. Currently, there are four known possible choices:
"F": refurbished unit
"M": retail unit
"N": replacement unit
"P": personalized (engraved) unit”

So it should start with letter from the previous list and not a number like my phone does

Does someone know an explanation for my unusual model number

My 13PM is also an 'A' ( MLKL3LL/A ) and original / retail unit, never replaced.

Never really paid any attention to it..

Yeah both your devices are original retail , by further reading in that guide you can even identify the region too
I am really curious about my device , what does 5 mean?

I can confirm now that model numbers starting with 3 or 5 are demo units that were intended to be used at stores
Apparently apple do sell them but in bulk , and they are sold without warranty branded As Is devices
