Thinking about buying a new mac pro and after doing some research a couple of questions keep popping up:

    1. When are the Core i7 Intel Mac's expected in stores? IYO, would it be worth waiting for these?

    2. When is Snow Leopard expected in stores? IYO, would it be worth waiting for it?

    3. Is there any indication that Snow Leopard will be a free/minor update for Leopard users?

    Thank you!

    1. We don't know (probably January). Yes, it's worth waiting for.
    2. We don't know (probably next June). Yes, it's worth waiting for.
    3. Not on your life will it be free.

If you actually have to do any real work, just buy now.

If you can wait, I would counsel you to do so. When the upgrade comes, the new memory addressing is going to make for a pretty radical increase in speed when processing video and the like.

FWIW, I waited 5 months for the Early 2008 model. In return I got eight cores and a faster bus. I have never regretted it though the wait was tough at times.

    1. They might be coming soon, because there are rumors of new iMacs going around as well as the MB and MBP rumors.
    2. Snow Leopard, I think, will be great because of its stability and quickness, but if you need a new computer, go ahead and get one.
    3. It will probably be the norm; $129 for single license, $199 for 5 pack

I wouldn't say not on your life.....................

If you buy your machine close enough to the launch of "Snow Leopard", you will most likely get a free upgrade. But it would most likely have to be within 30 days of launch. Apple doesn't want people returning machines, pretending there are issues, just to get the new OS.

My step-father was upgraded to Leopard, from Tiger, at no charge, when he purchased his iMac.

And he didn't even ask for it...................

BTW - I'm holding out untill Janurary for a new Mac Pro myself.

Obviously there will be drop-in disks. The standalone OS will NOT be free.

Wait for the upgrade, but not for Snow Leopard...IMHO.
