12.9 5th gen M1 here and don't see a reason to upgrade. Still performs very well and love the mini-led display. I'm sure the M4 Pro's are an upgrade in every respect but all M series iPads will be more than enough for most people regardless which chip it has

When we consider that M1 remained a new chip in certain lines into 2022 the support span of software I honestly think could break prior records from intel era and even iPad era prior to M chips being in iPads.

I don't hate OLED screens and I am not as sensitive to PWM as others on this forum. I just feel that micro LED would have fixed blooming issues with the mini Led and offered a superior color balance and white point with higher brightness than OLED allows. I think for Apple OLED is cheaper and is good enough. However there micro LED probably would have been the best screen tech you can get as long as they lowered the response time. Response time on the mini leds screens is pretty poor and causes noticeable tearing which sort of negates the 120 hz refresh rate. If they fixed the blooming and tearing micro led would have been superior to anything else on the market. It would have been exclusive to Apple at least for a while and would push the company forward in innovation.

I also would prefer micro led on the MacBook Pro's.

So for now my 5th gen air and M2 MBA are perfect for me. Everyone is different and might prefer OLED.

I agree the battery will probably need to be replaced before I feel a slowdown. Very happy with m series chips since they were first released!
Same set up im rocking currently and see no reason to upgrade. 16gb/1tb m2 air and M1 ipad air 11". Both have been fantastic and snappy.

I have my Air 5 and it is working flawlessly. It was an upgrade from the forcibly updated 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and I saw it as a huge upgrade. I primarily value performance and battery life, and it delivered on both when compared to my significantly affected - but not destroyed - 9.7-inch which runs iOS 12.

Now, the Air runs and will run iPadOS 15, so for compatibility reasons I got a little companion, the 11th-gen iPad. Purely for software reasons, as there’s absolutely no problem with the Air 5. Everything runs as it should, but that’s just me being cautious. Software compatibility will eventually be an issue for some things and I wanted to have an option that’s not updating and destroying the Air 5.

If not for wanting a mini and getting one my m1 11” iPad Pro is also humming along 4 years later. I don’t expect that to change anytime soon

That said been keeping it on iOS 17

I have an iPad Pro 2020 and it’s still a rocket. I’d like to upgrade to the nano texture screen, though, but don’t want to spend so much for the 1 To version. It’s a pity Apple don’t offer the matte texture for the base iPad Pro or Air. So I hold off
