Because that's their policy.
Also the white one was released yesterday so Im sure they wont have any refurb white iphone 4 models in stock for replacements.

Why don't you go to the store and find out? You might get lucky and they'll give you a white one. But the general policy, as far as i know, is that you get the same model that you broke.

That is my understanding as well. However, it doesn't hurt to ask. The worse thing they can do is say no.

I'm sure there are some legitimate situations out there that their phone broke right now at white iphone launch.

But I can not help but think there are some of these threads started by people that are thinking of intentionally breaking their black phone to get the white and are looking for some reassurance that it will work before they go through with it.

Just my 2 cents.
