So i sent these to Cocacola and they gave me 10 free pop case coupons..thanks

isnt it cool how it exploded

dont argue about pop vs. soda

Mods note: OP, I edited those pictures to be small, please don't put them back to a large size.

Wow - looks like it was an absolute joy to clean up.

And let this be a lesson unto you - don't turn the fridge to max coldness!

On second thought, maybe try it again - ten cases of free Coke? Sounds like its worth a shot!;)

This post was inspired by the recent mention of "Mole Day" coming up next month (Oct. 23).

Normally when you lower the temperature of a liquid, the volume and pressure go down not up. It seems to me in this case that the pop actually froze and water (unlike many liquids) expands as it freezes. I could be wrong.

I have a bad habit of putting a can of soda in the indoor icemaker to get it cold fast when I get home. There have been a few times when someone gets ice and the ice level is low enough that the worm screw or whatever that is that moves the ice down punctures the can and it explodes. Nothing like frozen coke all over the freezer, in the icemaker and pouring out of the ice dispenser.

Wait, they gave you 10 free cases because you set your fridge too cold?

Well, damage could have been done to the fridge, or to someone. Seems like that thing would have gone flying.

Although, could a cold fridge really do that? If you put a coke can in the freezer, will it explode? I'm not a drinker of pop/soda, so I wouldn't know.

Anyway, that's a pretty cool can! Keep it.

It can explode. When the coke freezes it expands and builds up quite a bit of pressure as the air in the can is compressed.

pop is such an annoying word. it's soda!

I use both, but in the area I grew up (NE Ohio), it's definitely pop.

I once had a canned carbonated cola beverage explode in my freezer - popped one in to cool it quickly and forgot. BANG! Ran to the freezer and saw that the carbonated cola beverage had frozen and broke the can open as it expanded. I was able to remove the chunk of frozen carbonated cola beverage in one piece, so cleanup was easy.

You're absolutely right. Mea culpa
