my power cord is fried

the thing just fried at the part where the cable and the magnet meet

I was reading the reviews at the apple page and it appears that I'm not alone on this.

Most likely, yes. Its apart of the computer system that you bought and it has failed. Call Apple tonight, get it replaced.
