Kira is a true goddess and I will love her forever. She is my first PowerBook and she has exceeded all my expectations. She has been so exceptional that I use personal pronouns to refer to her, as if she were a woman. If there were ever a woman as slim, strong, reliable, and beautiful as my PowerBook, I would never be lonely again.

that was pretty disturbing :p good to know you enjoy it.

But fixing what is wrong is pretty much the same as getting a new one, so what's the difference? Either way you get a machine that's (just like) new.

Jackie O' Nasis hasnt given me any issues as of late. Shes been pretty faithful since I met her a year and a half ago. Rock on TiBooks!

Jesus, I am sorry to hear this about your APPLE purchase.

I recently bought the 1.25 and hated it.

Bad latch, too much heat and video refresh was crap!

I think that the new Alu books are the worst powerbooks ever.

I sent it in and APPLE sent it back saying that it was working within specs or parameters.

Now that is a pile of crap.

So, I went out and bought a GOOD old Ti 1 giger and am a happy man again and its faster than the Alu, now with Panther it screams...

I am disputing the Alu purchase and my creditcard with get my money back because the sellers didnt want to take a return, much like APPLE.

I find it really SAD that APPLE is acting like this with you, it makes the experience only so much worse for all of us!

But what the hell are we going to do, go to WINblows?

I say keep fighting with APPLE.

I found out that there are many levels of returns and repairs and you have to keep sending it back in!

You do have a one year warranty on the unit, so they have to keep taking it.

Keep sending it until they fix it.
The sqeeky wheel gets the grease.

even apple makes mistakes and when i first heard apple was going to go away from the trusty tibook and go to the alubooks, i was shocked

sure the tibooks had the paint chipping problem, but that is small compared to the screen spots cause from pressure, and the weak latches that the alubooks seem to have

sometimes when a computer maker gets it wrong the first time out, the second version of it fixes the issues and the next round of alubooks should be better and up to par with the tibooks of old

my ibook came standard with 32 mb of ram and a 3 gb hard drive...and the users and reviewers jumped all over that one so in short order, apple revised the ibook and put 64 mb of ram standard and upped the hard drive to 6 gb...that made the user happy for the time and it showed apple was willing to own up to a mistake and rectify it

apple still needs to be a little better on service and fix errors and many people would rather have a mediocre dell but have its superb tech and call service...i used to be a dell, compaq, and apple warranty tech and while macs broke down less, dell had the money to rectify problems quicker so if something did go wrong with a mac, the turnaround time wwas longer and people would lose time and work

please don't give up on apple inc...they still make the best computers overall even though their first round desgins sometimes have flaws in their design and features...but i still like my 3 gb hard drive ibook for what it is and it has given me 4 years of trouble free use

What type of battery life should I be getting on my 17" powerbook fully charged? Right now I get about an hour and a half.. remember apple saying 4 hours originally... I've never questioned it until this thread.

What type of life are other 17"ers getting?

well, ive had none of those problems in the 12" alubook. with low light on screen, coding, editing etc i get up to 4 hours of life. (box says 5). and it does not get hot either. i don't know how many hours the 15" and 17" give in practise though.

oh, my screen is so bright that i keep it in the minimum, next to black.

I'm glad to see someone finally giving the good old 1 Ghz TiBook some recognition for being a solid machine. The only problem I've encountered with mine is the right front casing below the optical drive has a millimeter gap. I'm not complaining.

Just find a mac repair place. All you need to do is tighten a screw using one of their screw drivers and presto, no more gap. My Ti was sent back to me from Applecare with a gap under the headphone jack. A few turns of the wrist solved it.

Well, I just got a aluminum 12 inch ghz machine and love it.

The build quality is AMAZING, there is 100% less heat than my old tibook, the screen is crisp and contrasty, and VERY color accurate, the keyboard is a dream, RAM and Airport were a cinch to install, and I get about 3 1/2 hours real battery life. It's a great machine, and probably my favorite powerbook thus far. Great combo of speed, design and portability.

I generally get about 3 hours in general use and can make 3.5 if I do all the screen and processor tricks. It drops quite steeply with the airport and the opitcal drove running or if I leave Folding on.

I'm very happy with mine, no problems here.
Everything works, and it works blazing fast too.

Apple states that they will replace your machine if it is DOA or has serious problems, which this guy obviously does. They will only replace it if it hasnt been sent in before though
