The 12" really needs to get a new video card. If they did nothing else to it but make the video card at least a radeon 9700 with an 80GH HD standard in the combo drive model then that would be nice... oh and they need to make 512 built-in so you can actually get it to 1.5GB of ram

I too have to agree on the X-brite screen. The glare problems in most environments are terrible. I would like to see 128 vram in the 12", faster hard drive, and the new processors for more power and more battery life. Here's hoping! :)
There's no doubting the quality of the PB screen, it just needs a brightness bump. I would always put them on a par with the x-brite screens, but both have advantages and disadvantages. On the whole, I think the PB screen is better though.

For months now people have bee nso busy predicting new powerbooks and ibooks, that the introduction of the nano caught everybody by surprise.

I'm thinking there's not going to be an upgrade in Sept for the powerbooks. My money is on somethig in the iPod range.
what are the predictions there?

Quiet upgrade of PowerBooks. Quiet upgrade of Minis. Less quiet upgrade of PowerMacs, assuming they go dual-core.

iPods upgraded at MWSF, or, hopefully, during another media event sometime before Christmas.

BTW: I really don't see why Apple would put dual dual-core chips in the new G5's. That would ridiculously expensive and ridiculously ridiculous.

Those are absolute minimums.

I almost feel embarrassed for Apple comparing the 12" PowerBook to the new iBooks.

I believe the 15" is a very good value, but could stand to be cheaper.

Next two weeks?

Do you think we will se an update of the powerbook line in the next two weeks or even later in October?

Hi fellow countryman! I'm hoping for an update tomorrow or on Wednesday. If that doesn't happen I'll wait until next Tuesday. By then I will probably place an order for a 15" PowerBook regardless of an update or not. That said if nothing special happens ;) I certainly hope not that we will have to wait until the event in London in the end of October.

Stuff having 512mb built-in, you won't be able to upgrade it. Make it like the 15/17" PBs where they come with 512mb standard but it's NOT built-in. That way you can always upgrade to 2GB instead of only 1.5GB like the iBooks.

This is exactly the same situation I am in, and the student BTS offer ends on October 8th so that day is my deadline. However if I were to speculate, I don´t think we will see an update before that and I also don´t think the update will be released during the London event... I think Apple is there to do PR before they go Intel Inside... I would guess they release new PB:s somewhere in between these dates...

But I still hope for an update tomorrow!

Wouldn't work, you'd either need a second RAM slot like the 15"/17"ers have or you'd have to verify that 2GB SODIMMS (if they even exist) work - if you do that, then the 15"/17"ers will be able to hold 4GB.

If you don't build the RAM in then the 12"er could only hold 1GB.

It's pretty obvious to me they'll build 512MB into the 12" PowerBook on the next rev.

Is that a prediction or a rumour? If the latter, source and time/date? These would be awesome.

A comeback for 12" to ati would be very great, I want to use it on Linux and even if Ati drivers are not awesome, nVidia has not produce (and will not produce for the moment) any ppc drivers.

Man a friend of mine that goes to school with me has a 12" powerbook coming in the mail today  I should probably tell him not to open it shouldn't I? Oh man.... so hard to do

Well... its here. We are just staring at the box unsure of what to do. I turned him onto a deal I have also taken advantage of where you get a free all-in-one printer, a free 1GB RAM, A free carrying case and a free sleve AND a $100 rebate. So, really, even if there are updates he is not going to beat that deal.... I guess maybe its time to just open it.

Go for it.

Honestly, with the crazy market for Macs right now, you'd hardly lose anything just selling it when the update comes.

oh God let the powerbooks come out. This is pathetic, the 15'' pb only has SLIGHTLY and i do mean SLIGHTLY better specs than the mac mini and it costs almost 5x as much. and the difference between the ibooks and the pb... and the price is still double.. WTF!!!!!!!!! apple gimme my friggen update now!!!!!! I swear, they are just waiting for stock to deplete before they release new pb's... just like they are putting mini's into boxes that arnt the same spec

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYMORE PREDICTIONS FOR PB UPDATE??!!!
PLZ SHARE ! I really need to have another date to look forward to, The waiting is the hardest part !
