iPod My Product red ipod/dock isnt responding

It will not charge and iTunes doesnt reconize it. Everything seems to be plugged in right and both the dock and ipod are brand new. Anyone have an idea of whats going on?

What OS are you running, and what version of iTunes do you have installed?

Did you install iTunes from the disk that came with the nano, or via a download from the Apple site? I'm wondering if the nano requires a version increment which you don't have. Also, do you have any other iPods with which you can test the connection?

So you're running iTunes 7.0.1 ? If you plug it in, does it show up in Disk Utility?

Is it showing up on the desktop?

If it isn't charging, it isn't an iTunes error which was my first guess.

Have you tried plugging the USB cable straight into the iPod?

Does your Mac definitely have USB 2.0 ports?
