Well, just to give a serious answer, I do it because I've been doing it since many years ago in the Usenet days when we didn't have fancy-schmancy avatars and stuff. It's a hallmark, a point of consistency so you can more easily recognize the long string of my posts filled with wit and wisdom throughout time and space (cough cough). Don't like it? Tough. 🙂
