Tell more. Are they really starting to mix Macs in with the PCs or was this a one-time fluke? Who got it - a teacher? What subject?
a teacher (6th grade english) and then today i saw a new FP iMac on the desk of my choir director, she originally had a blueberry CRT iMac that she despised and the school was supposed to get her a PC instead but she got an iMac :p

Maybe the choir director will like her iMac better when Apple announces its music downloading service. If not, offer to trade her iMac for an old PC and you'll both come out ahead!

Who is making the decisions about these computer purchases? Our local middle school has an educational technology committee to plan the school's use of computers, and at least one student was a member for a while. He gave us opinions like "I hate Macs", but my point is that a smart student who asks to come to meetings and offers his/her help might just get listened to.

well it's too late...i told her about carracho :p
the computer teachers despise me because they know that i know more than they will ever know about anything :) so they don't listen.

maybe they despise you because you act like you do, even though you don't, because even if you did, acting like it makes you look like a complete prick.

Ouch.
Sure, passion can sometimes look bad, but some folks only do it for their own good? I used to be the insufferable Mac-lover, but no more. I saw the damage it could do and occasionally did. Rather, I decided to make actions, like productivity, speak for me. Now Macs rule here.

i at least know something. they're idiots who do not know the difference between firewire and usb and it's taking them 2+ years to get the network up and running
Now if it took me about 2 minutes to find and download drivers for a printer why did they look for the CD's that came with the printer for more than 3 days?
And ethernet...they don't know the difference between wired and wireless. (yeah they're that stupid)
They really hate me because they block all these sites and i always hack them so i can do stuff...like getting to my iDisk to get my HW.

Out Dated Computers

OK heres my take on schools and Macs

Every School I have gone to have EXTREMLY outdated macs. Everytime someone has to use one they whine and say "OMG macs suck, I hate them, their so slow" Then I have to explain to them theat the Classic Mac that they are using IS VERY OUTDATED.

on the other hand, so are most school PCs.

our school just got rid of the ?system 7? whatever-it-is macs we used to have--replaced them with cheap ass dell optiplexes... the art room, though, has some crazy MDD Pmacs with 17 studio displays, and the journalism room is full of OS 9 Pmacs with 19inch trinitrons... too bad i'm not in journalism or art . the schmucks in journalism that like PCs still hate macs, even though they run pretty decent ones.

it's not so much passion that i was attacking as the arrogant straw-manning and insulting manner the subject displays. case in point:

sure, plenty of people do dumb things with computers. or maybe there's another explanation. i can't ask them, and asking you gets just bias. i'm sure you have something of a point somewhere, but you use way too much hyperbole. and you've clearly given them reason to hate you, too. i don't care how stupid they are, breaking the rules (hacking to get into unpermitted sites) is, surprise, surprise, against the rules. my school won't let me access the airport network so i can get to the internet at school from my own computer. i don't bitch at them. i don't try to break in. they don't hate me. sure, i think it's dumb that they did it, but that doesn't make them incompetent idiots just like that.

Good point.
