Hi, I have an imac 2017 - monterey. I've been using my backup (seagate) for some time and it worked perfectly.
I now see that it doesn't even read on my imac, I have tried numerous ways (online articles) to see if anything works.
Nothing works. I have tested it on windows and it says the drive is there but still doesn't show it. Any help please.

And your HDD is in a working condition, yes?
Have you checked it on another device, or can you see him under System Information --> USB?
If there even no entry about Seagate in System Information and Disk Utility (View -> All Devices)?

+ don't use any software provided from man. that helps to encrypt, secure, backup and bla-bla whatever.
Lost all the data from 3 different WD drives, because I used to use that provided software. After some time -- disk not recognising, data can't be reached, only full erase was helpful (hoping this story is not the same as yours)

Just to clarify...

You cannot "see" the drive in disk utility (on the Mac)?
Is this correct?
(in disk utility, MAKE SURE that you go to the "view" menu and choose "show all devices")

Be aware that on Windows, the drive may be recognized "as attached" and "physically there", BUT, Windows can't handle the Mac file system and can't go further in that regard.

What did you use to create the backup?
Time machine?
Or something else, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper?

appltech is absolutely right about the manufacturer "proprietary" software.
Don't use it.

Is this drive only "a backup"?
By that, I mean, does the stuff on it already exist on your "main" (internal) drive?

And... having said that... have you considered just erasing the drive, and "starting fresh" with a NEW backup?

That's what I'd do.
And if you've been using tm for backups, I'd also suggest you try BOTH SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner, to see how they work for you.

Both are FREE to download and use for 30 days.
