So I come home from work and I found out my watch was somehow mixed with the laundry and my sister ended up washing in the washing machine with my clothes. The watch still works and doesn't have and visual marks or scratches on it. I'm surprised it made it since she used hot water and 2 rinses. I guess these things are more durable than I thought, so I wanted to share this story.

Which Generation Apple Watch do you have?

If it's gen 2 or 3 you're meant to be able to swim with it on ;)

I would keep an close eye on it. Hot water degrades the adhesives and sealants used to keep moisture out of the device. Just because there isn't immediate damage, doesn't mean there isn't a long term one.

It’s a Gen 2 and it’s been a while now. I was expecting it to fall apart in a few days or atleast get scratched from the metal inside the waster. At least the watch is more durable than my MacBook Pro who’s keyboard failed...lol

Is it cleaner than it was before?

Yes. I've read of cases where extreme-quality divers watches failed in hot tubs.

I was about to ask if your MacBook Pro also took a trip through the wash :)

I’m not lucky
Mine went through the washing machine too and have a tiny crack in screen that probably let water in

i swam everyday with the series 0 with nary a problem. even tim cook admitted he showered with his series 0.

Series 0 was officially splash resistant so running in the rain or taking a shower was a normal feature. Swimming means submerging the watch and that could result in problems. I swam with my S0 from time to time and never had any problems, but there plenty of people online who damaged their S0 like that...

Showered, swam, hot tubbed with a series 0 and it’s still ticking (so to speak). Apples stuff are usually very conservative in their ratings. You’re fine.

it also depends how hot she washed your watch. 40C or around 104F should not be a problem.
At least according to the temperatures Apple says are okay (and there’s likely some leeway too)

“Apple Watch is designed to work best in ambient temperatures between 32° to 95° F (0° and 35° C), and should be stored between ambient temperatures of -4° and 113° F (-20° and 45° C).”

This thread came back from the dead... lol Well I have some news to report. The watch is still working good as new, so that's a positive thing about durability.
