Hey People,

I have an Flat-Panel iMac G4 800mhz with a Super Drive(Pioneer DVR-104) , as i understand about a year ago there was talk about these drives not being able to use 4X media.

well I got the iMac firmware update from Apple and still cannot burn over 1X in Toast 6 using 4X Memorex DVD-R's. can anyone please help me with this. i hate having to wait 55 min just 2 burn a freakin disc.

Isn't it a 1x burner? I seem to recall that the older Superdrives were 1x.

You can probably use 4x media in the burner (I do) but that doesn't mean it'll burn at 4x.

The first shipped Superdrives started at 2x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW.

You can only burn 4x media at 1x on Superdrives rated at 2x. To burn at 2x speeds, you can only use media rated at 2x. 2x media is hard to find nowadays so don't be expecting to burn your DVD faster anytime soon.

You can buy a Pioneer 107 8x DVD-RW Dual Layer burner and replace your aging Superdrive. The cost is something like $120 CDN.
