So I have an A1625 (14.4 (18K802)) Apple TV. Occasionally we use our iphones (8) to control it using the remote function.
However, I went out to the garage to do stuff. Opened my Music app to play some Lamb of God and the music played inside on the Apple TV.
This has happened before and don't remember how to prevent this.
How do I set things so my MUSIC doesn't play on the TV? I'd still like to be able to use the remote function though.
Thank you

There is no setting for default Airplay output. I think it remembers where you played last and tries to keep it that way. Just change it back to your phone.

When the song is playing on your iPhone, check the icon at the bottom in the center, that should open up AirPlay and the device it is using.

It's not airplay.

when you've used the remote, your phone's music player now becomes a remote for that device. so when selecting music, you're actually controlling the player directly in the remote device (HomePod or appleTV)
This is different than airplay where the music plays on your phone, and then re-streams to the remote device.

in the music app, at the bottom of the screen is a little now playing banner, if that has one line of text (just the song info) you're controlling your phone, if it's got a second line that has a location, you're in "remote mode" so you'll be controlling the homepod/aTV that's named.
Sadly, you just have to pay attention.

to change which device is selected....
Go to the airplay menu (either through the control center widget, or the airplay icon at the bottom of the now playing/queue screen in the music app), then at the bottom click "control other speakers and TVs" and make sure you've selected your phone. Whichever device you select there will also show up in your control center "now playing" widget as well as on your Home Screen.

You can also change it using a shortcut. There's an item for "set playback destination to _____________" You can set it to "iPhone" and it will reset the control back to your phone. You can add a siri trigger if you want.
You could also add other steps to that shortcut that would start music playing.

Either of these will need to be done before you start playing music, otherwise, music will continue to play on the remote device, but the controls on your phone now control your phone, So you'll have to switch back to that remote device to stop it.

In limited testing just now, asking siri on the phone will always play on your phone
I even tried having music going on the HomePod and had the HomePod selected to control. and she stopped the music on the HomePod, and played on my phone (although I think stopping the HomePod might have more to do with only being allowed a single stream, not sure how it would work on a family plan)

This is one of the reasons I like sonos, there's much less ambiguity about what you're controlling.
