Heya! Saw a thread close to this one but had different spec requests and also posted this in the USB C hub thread. Hope you are ok with a repost here. I head off on Monday to present and currently do not have a working USB C travel hub. Taking my older Mac and a pile of dongles so I know something will get working. Here is the post.

Hey folks!

I have something quite specific and hope you can help.

I moved to the 16 M1 Max and in the process two different USB C hubs I use no longer work. After a call with Apple, they have confirmed this is an issue but also cannot provide any recommendations of a replacement hub that will work with M1.

I find it a little humorous I will be using more dongles with my new Mac than my 2016 unless I can find a USB C Hub that will work with my M1 that has....

Ethernet

VGA

HDMI (as a backup)

Extra USB ports would be nice but are usually part of a hub usually.

Portable. I can bounce room to room during the day with sometimes only 15 minutes between presentations.

Also, this is a heads up that if you got a new M1 check your hub to make sure it still works. I am a conference presenter and I have a feeling a lot of fellow presenters who just upgraded will be wandering into conferences without knowing their hubs possibly no longer work.

Any help would be appreciated. I hit the road Monday and do not want to randomly buy hubs on Amazon and hope they work on my new MBP.

Thanks!

I am not sure if you will see this in time, but hopefully, hopefully it will help you in your search for a USB-C hub. I have two USB-C Hubs. I have a NOVOO 8 in 1 USB-C Hub and an Anker 7 in 1 USB-C Hub. I have had my NOVOO for the longest, and I have had a good experience with it. But since you are looking for something sold in-store before you leave, you may want to look into something like the Hyper HyperDrive Ultimate 11 Port Universal USB-C Hub and see if it's available at a Best Buy or a similar store near you.

Really appreciate the reply! Looks like the Hyper Drive has VGA so will look into that. Sadly not in stock near me and also unable to get there in time. Just wish I knew if these worked on the M1.

Since the time of my posting it looks like Monterey seems to be a possible issue as well. Hopefully this turns out just to be a software issue.

Thanks!

I can confirm on my 16in M1Pro my usb C to usb A adapter/dongle doesn’t work with my usb Apple keyboard with number pad. Grrr?.
However, the adapter works with Samsung T5 1TB SSD drive via usbA to usb-C connection. ??

Hey folks!

Wanted to provide an update.

Dig some digging around and found a Kensington Hub that said it worked on M1. Called them and they said they had tested it, etc.

It was delivered yesterday and it does indeed work with my M1 16 inch MBP M1 Max. Its 100W Power Passthrough and has HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, USB C and two USB A Ports.

Kensington product but only currently available (at the time of this typing) on the Dell website

Hope this helps some others in the same scenario. VGA and portability were two needs for me and were tough to find in a hub that supported M1.
