In one case, Jiffy lube simply didn't tighten the drain plug, so all the guy's oil dribbled out within a few miles. In another case, a female co-worker was convinced by a Jiffy Lube "service advisor" that she must have her transmission fluid changed. It was never really determined what they did to it, but the transmission was ruined, and Ford (this was a ford explorer) would not cover it under warranty due to improperly performed work. This woman and her husband had to get a lawyer to get Jiffy Lube to pay for that one.

My ex back on 9/11/01, went to Just Tires for an oil change and tire rotation. Well the short of it was the grease monkey drained the transmission fluid instead. Realized his mistake, and changed the engine oil - but forgot to refill the transmission fluid. My ex got just a few yards, before the transmission acted up. In trying to make things right, another grease monkey dropped and shattered the transmission pan! <eek>

(An aside, he called to complain, and I told him that two jets had just crashed in to each of the WTC towers. He said to stop trying to make him feel better. He thought I was joking!).

does anyone realize this thread is from august?

and not to be a complete jerk or anything, but what the %^#% were you thinking? you go out and spend $17k(or however much a stratus goes for) on a car and then you treat it like that? ok, so it was hot out and you were feeling lazy, did it occur to you to wait until the next day to do it? not changing the oil the second you hit 3k isn't going to hurt your engine, in fact, most cars can go considerably longer then that; but, as you experienced first hand, going the cheap route certainly can.

don't get me wrong, i'm glad it worked out for you in the end, but i hope after experiencing this, you will treat the car you spent so much money on with a little more respect.

If you are referring to my post, keep in mind my ex went to Just Tires at like 7:30AM on 9/11/01 for the oil change and tire rotation.

haha reminds me when one time i bought a $6 "waterproof" watch from walmart and i would constantly go swimming in it, having it break and taking it back to walmart just about every time i went for a month or two.

No, I think he was singling me out. Yeah, I admit it was a mistake to go to Wal Mart for an oil change but I have learned my lesson.

Well sure, but does it matter? Irishguy brought it back to life in his drug-induced psychosis, so why not talk about it more?? ;)

And I fail to see how someone treats their car so "badly" by bringing it to Wal Mart. Plenty of poor souls bring their car to Wal Mart to have it maintained, despite how evil they are, without any problems. We live and learn, and at least there's one more person in the world that will never frequent Wal Mart again. :)
