I’ve seen many threads and comments about the increased/inflated calorie counts with WatchOS 5.

Well, today I went for a walk with my S4 and the walk I’ve done approximately 1000 times, and has been measured by iphone and S0 and S2 and S3 watches at 3.2 miles, today registered as 3.5 miles.

Had my phone (X) and S4.

I feel much better having walked 3.5 miles

5.1 can’t come soon enough man. Apple watch’s fitness tracking was my favorite feature and I was always obsessive over my numbers and hitting them everyday. Seeing that they’re completely meaningless at this point totally sucks

I go on the same walk every morning, and my S4 tracks the distance the exact same as my S3 on 4.X

Have you tried recalibration the fitness calibration. That helped me to get mine back on the right measurements.

It’s definitely not universal.

You should use mine. You’ll go farther.

Ooh. Please to remind how?

Apple Watch app...then privacy...then reset fitness calibration.

Originally with my series 4 I was meeting my move goal at halfway through the day...and then I reset it an all went back to normal . I had to go walking with my watch again first though. Hope it work for you!

I'm a regular runner and haven't noticed any changes between my AW2 and the AW4. I just wish I ran faster.

Maybe with the S5 you will run faster

... and will be faster :)

However seriously if anything the series 4 seems to be more accurate and consistent to me.
My wife’s and my series 0 on the same walk had much more fluctuations between us and between days.
With the series 4 the difference is much tighter.

On the other side, we both see higher calorie burn at the same distance.

As recommended you probably should recalibrate.

Thanks for the reset tip. It worked. My 3.2 mile walk is again 3.2 miles. Now I wonder if the exaggerated calorie counts will come down as well...

Did you reset your fitness data and then have to do anything else to calibrate it? That’s good news it’s fixed for you!

I wasn't prompted to do anything else (in fact it was weirdly un-Apple like when I hit the Reset button; there was no clear feedback that it'd registered so I hit it a few times to make sure!)

I just went for a walk with my phone and will continue to keep the phone with me for better calibration.

What about the crazy activity calorie counts? Are they back to being reasonable?

I did what he did and it didn’t make a single bit of difference. Kind of disappointing. I was actually a little bit hopeful but I did it the day before yesterday and yesterday I burn the 3300 cal without doing anything. Still hoping 5.1 fixes it

Mine did. That was why I originally tried it. It was fun to “burn” more calories but totally unrealistic.

I never had crazy calorie burns, just the distance difference. My calories are a little (5%?) higher but I’ve been a little more active so tough to say.
