I just received them on Tuesday. I got the 11” and 12.9” white magic keyboards from Verizon and they already have black scuff marks on them and I cannot get them off. I spent a lot of money for this to happen so quickly. Im not sure what happened. I’m not sure Verizon will take them back. Will apple do anything? Is there anything I can do to get these marks off. I’ve tried numerous things and nothing is helping at all.

Well, I used a little bit of nail polish remover and managed to get most of it out. Still, these are things I shouldn’t have to do with a product I’ve had for such a small amount of time. I have the black ones from 2020 and can get out anything with a magic sponge. Not the white. This is much more difficult. I’m very disappointed.

That sucks, but I haven’t had any issues with mine. Pretty happy with my decision to go with the white.

I agree with @Kyle76: skins are a great way to protect your MK. The most popular brands are D-Brand, Sopiguard, and Decal Girl, but there are others mentioned in these threads:

Apple isn't going to take that back and neither will Verizon. That is what is considered normal wear. You should resign yourself to the fact that the keyboard is going to show things like that from time to time. Try not obsess about it.

its normal wear for a product that expensive to look like that after three days? I have to say I disagree.

Its not a design defect. Your Magic Keyboard works as it should. All that has happened is the keyboard having something (unbeknownst to you at the time) come in contact with it that left a mark. Accidents happen. Clean it as best you can and move forward.

The texture of the Magic Keyboards and Smart Folios makes them especially susceptible to marks and smudges. It’s unfortunate, but you have to be very careful to avoid them. White shows dark marks, while black shows smudges from fingerprints. Neither is perfect. A skin is about the only way to change this property. I sent my folio back and bought a third-party product which is much less susceptible to showing marks. I just try to be careful with the keyboard.

How hard are the skins to put on? I am afraid of messing it up and then wasting my money.

Not hard at all. I just put one on my Smart Keyboard Folio, my second skin ever. First one was on an MK. The companies I mentioned all provide how-to videos, tips and written instructions. Air bubbles are easy to smooth out as you apply the skin. Buy a quality skin and you’ll see how easy it is. Plenty of posts in those two threads I mentioned about first time experiences.

Hmmm… that’s the risk of getting a white keyboard case. But everyone here said the white keyboard doesn’t not get dirty and the black one gets dirty even more easily.

Would never buy a white case anything for this reason.
Lucky I returned mine 😃 kind of miss it though 🥺😂

I’ll wait for gen 3, hopefully it’ll have its own battery, a keyboard backlight that can be set to a certain lighting, a less firm and Noisy trackpad, you will be missed you sexy thing.

Why does it need to have its own battery?
I don’t see especially high battery usage of my 12.9 inch Magic Keyboard so far.. probably because the iPad is still new?

Doesn’t need a battery would be just more weight, My keyboard is just left plugged in unless i move it, or i just take the iPad. Compared to the Apple Mac keyboard and trackpad i use too noise is similar.
I like how the backlighting works.

You didn’t really need it if you have a MacBook.

It doesn’t have to draw power from the iPad then. 😃 honestly think it was macrumors that was causing the battery drain.

honestly found the backlight annoying at night while the tv is on, kept adjusting itself every few seconds.

Most likely, few more refinements and it’ll be the perfect magic keyboard.

honestly found the trackpad way more noisey than my MacBook, maybe a faulty trackpad? 🤔 doubt it.

I have always enabled ad blockers so I didn’t realise this website is a problem. haha!

I always buy white or light colored cases for both my iPhone and iPad. I’ve never had a smudge or wear showing up black. My Apple white case has been on my iPhone since last fall and looks like new. My white magic keyboard has daily use and also looks new - haven’t had to even wipe it down yet.

I did get a food mark on the faux suede part of the white folio but it wiped right off with a microfiber cloth and some soap.
