My version of the story has the guy dropping his cell phone into a pit toilet. He takes a look down the hole, reaches into his back pocket, pulls out his wallet, and throws it in. When somebody asks him why, he says "Because it wasn't worth going down there for just the cell phone."
Yours is the modern day version! ;) :p :D

heck yes I'd get it back!! I dont care what it is, I'd go after it.

Would be interesting to see who would have gone into get it if you announced out load that there is a free iPhone to anyone who goes in and gets it.

Roll up roll up, free iPhone to the first person sick enough to wade around in a toilet full of excrement....

If the ringer was on you should have told your wife to wait outside the porta-potty for someone else to go in, and then call the phone. Listen for the person to say, "what the ****" as they are doing their business.

I would come running, or you could have fished it out and got a refurb.

are the iphone magnet grabable? then just tie really strong magnets to really strong string ( fish line works well) and just 'fish' around the tank till you grab it.
I have gotten stuff out of portapotties, murky deep puddles and lakes using this method. keys, coins, bullets, knives and handguns. :D

water fix

I dropped my iphone in a toilet (yes, not good). I grabbed it within a few seconds but there was already water under the screen, phone shorting out, could not turn off, screen did not respond.

I took out the sim card, shook the phone in a towel, dried it with a hair dryer (not too hot), and then cooked it in the oven. Seriously!

I took a small baking pan, but about an inch of rice in the bottom to insulate the phone from the direct heat, and cooked it for 8 hours total at about 120-130 degrees. The phone works fine now! No trace of water except for the red half of the water sensor lit up (half white/half red now).

I hope you have my luck - and keep it away from water! I recommend turning it off if it will respond before you cook it, but I didn't have that option.

As for the porta-pottie, I don't think I would go in after my own arm if it fell in...
