If I have three straight days off from Arby's (which is a rare as the roast beef), I never leave my house either. I'm either home or at Arby's. That's it. Everyplace else either doesn't interest me or has a restraining order against me. I'm better off at home or at work.

Hahahahaha!

Lucky man! Is it activated and ready to go?

I get mine tomorrow before 3PM. Black 256GB...can't wait to get my hands on it.

First impressions: definitely feels a little more sturdy than a iPhone 7 (never owned a plus). Feels amazing in hand. I though my jet black 7 was nice to hold but the glass on the back feels even nicer when using the phone. You can tell theres a lot more screen real estate. Getting used to no home button will def take a little time. For example closing out of apps is totally different. Remember double clicking home and swiping up? Thats gone obviously. I dont mind the notch so far. Its kind of nice with the time on the left side and status bars/battery on the other. Tap to wake is cool to have now. Face unlock is super quick and conveninent so far. Interested to see how it will be in pitch black dark

yeah I've been using it for 3-4 hours now. no complaints.

Bro do you even know how IR works?

not really, no

Also, due to the limited space on the screen I assume, no more battery percentage. you have to drop the menu down from the upper right corner to see the actual number.

FaceID will work perfect in pitch black. It's bright sunlight that may cause problems YMMV

So you have to setup the phone as new, upgrade to 11.1 and then reset the entire thing to restore from iTunes backup? That sounds really stupid and irritating.

not quite. just activate it, hook up to itunes, update ios then restore. you dont have to set it up entirely before upgrading ios.

Gshox, if you don’t mind and have time, can you test if you lay it flat on a desk or dining table and look at it, do not hover or pick it up, just lean slightly to see if it will unlock?

Trying simulate being in the office or at a restaurant. My concern is if a person can still be able to be discrete or will they now constantly look like they are about to take a selfie every time they want to unlock the phone. Thanks.

I feel like the OP is the big black guy in the movie Summer School (1987) who left to go use the restroom. Then we never saw him again until the exams and he still ended up with the highest score.

I tried it out for you and can confirm the slight lean works. You dont need to line it up with your face or anything crazy.

Slight lean works like a charm actually

You weren't expecting anyone/anything so didn't answer the door?

What strange logic.

Not if you live in NYC in a walkup building it isn't.

As the poster said, randoms ring just any old doorbell to get into a building.

Often it is someone with a legitimate purpose. I work from home...so the UPS/FedEx guys have grown accustomed to buzzing ME if they don't get an answer from the intended recipient.

Nine times out of ten the delivery will be for someone else in my building. I specifically ask now, "Is this delivery for my apartment #___?;" since I live up many flights of stairs and I don't want to run up and down them all day long. I do have work to do!

If I'm not expecting anything and I'm busy, I don't answer the buzzer.

And my friends will always call before coming over. No one just 'drops in.'

Mine arrives tomorrow - Black, 256GB. I'm very excited! It will be hard to focus on anything else until I have the phone in my hands! Congrats on receiving yours early, that is an excellent piece of luck! The white looks really nice.

I was just surprised they were all silver, finally found a space gray unboxing. it looks sweet. big fingerprint magnet though

LOL! what! some people like white phones whats wrong with that? I got the space gray myself but did eye the white one now that the front is black.. it does look kind of nice.

It seems almost all tech preview in North America and Europe got Silver.

All the Space Grey ones came from Asia.

I wonder if they thought there may a cultural colour preference..?

I'm the same type who doesn't like to answer the door. It's a creepy salesman or Jehovah's Witnesses fear. And Halloween was two days ago. I don't even answer for trick-or-treaters. I keep the lights off.

Dude still got early and had a photo to prove it. It's really like the iPhone 4 launch. I talked to some guy in line that launch day getting his a day earlier too.

Another comparison is Mike Teavee from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The book was my fav as a kid and I prefer the 1971 version over the 2005 film.

"Mike Teavee, how do feel getting the fourth Golden Ticket?"

"Can't you see I'm busy?"

My bad. Maybe being too blasé doesn't help or he would have gotten it on Tuesday!

Best thread I read all week. I feel like the interviewer dude in Bang Bus after I read this thread. "Niiice, dude. Niiice!"
