I purchased a new MM yesterday to replace one I bought 5 years ago. Everything is working great on it, but I have a mystery device called 'Remote Disc' in the Finder device list. I have attached a screen shot. Any idea what this is for? When I insert a CD a new listing for the CD device is made & 'Remote Disc' remains.

I don't have the Mac 1.0 Windows utility to remotely share a CD/DVD drive installed on my Windows computer. My Win machine runs 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

The 'Remote Disc' entry shows up regardless of whether or not a device with Remote Disc sharing is on the network; it's a property of your local machine.

I figured out how to turn it on for devices that don't have it turned on normally (at the time, the MacBook Air was the only one without an optical drive so it was the only one that had it turned on). Looks like it's on by default now.

    To turn it off, try:
    Code:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool false
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool false
    and reboot.
