Ok so before I buy this cool hotspot app, what do I need to have on my iPhone plan for me to not occur charges? I have the unlimited data plan and 250 txt messaging plan. Thanks

But don't I need their tethering plan too?

If you have their tethering plan, you don't need MyWi. Just wait for iOS4.3. But remember if you get the ATT tether plan, you are paying for the same data twice. ATT wants you to do this. MyWi lets you tether bypassing ATT's tether activation. As mentioned, you already have everything you need except the MyWi app. ATT will contend that you will be violating their terms of service. But they're not going to know unless you start having very large data usages. Unlimited is not really unlimited. If you start tethering and downloading movies and other high data stuff, they're going to have a pretty good idea what you're doing.

Remember, it's okay to be a pig, but hogs go to slaughter.

BTW, MyFi is a great app that I have found well worth the price.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

You don't need anything else, you have the unlimited plan. Now just jailbreak and buy MyWi and you're done.

While I can certainly understand how the OP could have been confused as to what it was that MyWi accomplished, I can't help but laugh at this thread. It my brain it was picturing this discussion in a very cartoon like fashion. Perhaps something from Futurama. The OP would be Fry, and the rest of us would be Bender, and then the comedy comes from Fry's naivete.

Lol :D
Then there would be no point in buying Mywi if you're paying for official tethering.
The soon to be released 4.3 firmware will have a built in wifi hotspot for an additional $20 per month on top of your data plan.

And you don't get to keep unlimited :/

I wouldnt suggest buying it. I have read problems about the bluetooth connection. Unless you are looking for a simple cable USB tether thing.

The legit version has a 4 day trial.

ack on topic. MyWi works great for me (although I don't like the recent update as well as I liked it before).

Your unlimited data plan is what MyWi is making use of. DO NOT TELL AT&T WHAT YOU ARE DOING if you ever have need to contact them

Tetherme is $1.99.

Jeeze people sure are BRAINWASHED with the mywi program name which is 10x more expensive.

And it does wifi hotspot, which Tetherme does not.

Curious what is wrong with the new release? I haven't updated yet.

There's nothing wrong with the new release, and that's not what Weiser878 said. The interface is all new, including new graphics.

Tetherme does wifi hotspot on 4.3, in Infrastructure mode with WPA2. Neither of which MyWi does. Jus' sayin'.... :D

Since 4.3 is not out yet, what TetherMe will do on 4.3, is irrelevant. MyWi could do this, too. No one knows. TetherMe doesn't offer controlling the power used by WiFi and doesn't even list it as a feature for the 4.3 version of TetherMe . Jus' sayin'. ;)

The TetherMe author also advises to buy it now, because the price will go up for the version that supports 4.3. It'd be great if he raised the price to $19.99 and all the people who have had a MyWi pole stuck up their #$@ over the price will have to make room for another pole.:D

I know, because I've tested it. :D It DOES work great on 4.3.

The current version supports 4.3. The price is just going up (like Lockinfo and others have done recently), but previous owners won't have to pay anything extra.

I don't personally have a bug up my ass about MyWi (though I've seen people who do). It isn't worth it to me right now, but might be in the future if I get an iPad and the "on demand" feature is working well. $20/25 for MyWi's featureset is a good value for some people, for others it's not.

I bought MyWi during the summer of 2010, I don't think TetherMe was out at that time. I almost never use the hotspot feature, but I've already paid for it, what's done is done. If there's an iOS 5 version of MyWi that tries to charge again and TetherMe is cheaper, I may jump ship, but until then I'm happy with the solution I have.
