I use one of those Folio cases for my iPad Mini. Not necessarily for protection (because normally I can't stand cases on my devices), but because it props the iPad in an upright position.

I've been using my rMini naked for a few months now. I picked up a sleeve at Best Buy that I put it in to transport it, but when I'm using it it's naked. I do keep a screen cover on it, so now sure how that counts...

My r mini is resting in a black smart case, no scratches, no dents. It's ok to keep your iphone naked but the ipad is way to risky.

That really varies from person to person. If you have kids or travel with it then naked might be too risky but for causal couch/bed surfing in a carpeted room one shouldn't need more than minimal protection. It just depends on where you are on the spectrum.

I use a TPU Gel Skin that can be removed easily. When traveling, I put my iPad Air in a sleeve and inside a small laptop bag.

I just got my sleeve in and I'm pretty satisfied for now. When I'm not using it, it is fully protected with the Zagg screen protector and resting inside the leather sleeve. Best of both worlds.

i always buy covers-skins-cases screen guards etc

it's gotta fall once to spoil your mood for months and months, and you cannot rewind (<<)

it'd be a too salty risk (keep it scratched-destroyed or buy a new one)
to have it 'naked' even if it looks so sexy

if i was a billionaire i'd keep them all naked.

I've never used a case on mine. I've used a smart cover, but aside from wanting to prop it up occasionally I don't see the need.

When I upgrade my iPad I will probably get the logitech UltraThin Keyboard cover and that will be it.

I prefer my Apple products naked. I think using a case takes away from the design of the product.

I do, however, have the black Apple leather cases on my 5S and iPad Air as I am currently on Verizon Edge, and want the devices kept in the best condition possible in the event I decide to trade them in. I typically take good care of my devices.

I think it comes down to a combination of personal preference and how accident prone you are. You can say the same thing about buying AppleCare+ opposed to not buying it.

I don't use a case for any of my devices.
I upgraded to an iPad Air because it's so thin and light - add a case and I may as well not have bothered.

I do use a sleeve if I'm taking the iPad out of the house with me though, so it has some protection if I throw it in a bag, but that is not very frequent.

It doesn't have any marks or scratches on it, but I don't worry about the aluminum back getting scratched up. It's a tool to be used.

Zagg invisible shield on the back, Smart Cover on the front.

Perfect combination for me. I'd recommend it to everyone.

So, how does that work? I use a Skinomi TechSkin on the back of mine and it is made to apply on the back with appropriate cutouts. The Zagg website only shows skins for the front. What am I missing?

I've got an iPad Air since they released the Retina Mini, and it's been naked ever since.looks as new,but it has never left the house.
Recently I've been thinking about buying a case,I'm concerned that the back will get scratches eventually, when you put the iPad down on a table or desk.
But I hate hiding it inside a case, and hate the added bulk, weight and feel of a case.
So still not sure.
I think buying a charging dock and placing the iPad on that when not in use can be a great solution to avoid scratching the back when it's left on a table.

I think the best solution is to buy a sleeve for those moments when you're not using the iPad. The Smart Cover will protect its screen and can be used in stand-mode.

I use a case to help protect the device and to help get a better grip on the device.

I have a retina mini that slipped out of my fingers using it in bed one night and hit me on the lips. Ouch. Remedied with a lifeproof case.

I just got an Air with the student discount; awaiting a lifeproof case but in the meantime it reminds me how slippery the devices are naked.

Plus, I do take these things outside of my home so I use a case to protect it from scratches and scuffs when I toss it in my backpack.

Whenever My iPad is in use, it's naked, but if I put it down for any reason I always put it in the case. I learned the lesson with my old iPad; I set it down for less than a minute, it dropped four inches and somehow managed to land in just the right way to make the screen explode.

I had to buy the full body shield and just not apply the front. Just looked on the website and there seems to be a back only option now.

Have you tried the Apple Smart Case?

Yes, it's expensive. I balked at the price too. But I plunked down the cash, and honestly, it's one of the most form-fitting, nice looking, ergonomic cases I've ever had on any product. Fully worth the cost, especially if you carry your iPad Air around a lot.

Considering the device it's protecting can cost over $800 (Mine is the 64GB cellular version), spending a tiny fraction of that on a good case isn't that big a deal.

All my devices are naked. I use a sleeve from Incase to transport. It zips closed. Seems to work for me. I'm gentle with things.
