I just thought I would let all you other Canadian Rogers customers know that recently Rogers has added name display back onto the $40 value pack. As 3.1 now supports it. Its not posted on the website as such but it is in the system. So just give them a call they can upgrade you to the new one and they you can have name display! :D

I'm not a Rogers customer, but what does that mean? Just curious.

Essentially when you don't have the number in your phone book instead of just showing the number thats calling it will show the name the phone number is registered too.

Man, why doesn't AT&T have something as archaic as that? I would truly appreciate that feature.

Except that all of the phones on my plan have my name on it. They don't ask for names when adding lines. :-/

True but its nice to atleast get the last name. Sometimes it will make my head ring a bell. Also when a company is phoning thats always nice.

However the iPhone doesn't keep the name in missed calls just the number. :( Maybe 3.2 will fix this as 3.1 just implemented it.

So, basically the same thing as what we Americans call Caller ID. Gotcha :D

Here caller id shows just the number calling where name display shows the name of the caller.

No, I'm talking about the Caller ID service you have to pay extra for from your cell company. On Verizon plans, it shows Name, Number, and the City/State where registered.

    [edit]

Oops, I thought you were using the context from my previous for "here," as in "in the USA." I apologize.

We don't have Verizon in Canada, in Canada we have to pay for everything.

I bet they do. Verizon does.

Well, it's not a free feature here, either. For free, all we get is the number. It's up to your phone to match it to a name in your address book, just like normal.

Once, again, I apologize. I thought you were using the context from my first post for your "here," as in "in the USA." My bad. :D

With rogers? or with verizon? I can't find it on verizons site. And with rogers its $2 on top of caller ID. Or free if you have a value pack that has it.

I'm not sure where it is on Verizon's site. All I know is my father has it on his phone from Verizon. Well, technically, his service is still branded as "Alltel," but that's part of Verizon, now.

In Canada, just displaying the phone number of the person who's calling you is a "premium" feature that they would normally charge for.

Displaying both the name and number? For landlines, it's part of the same service as displaying the number. For cell phones, that's an extra-premium service.

Unless you're on one of the "discount" brands or a prepaid service, in which case the whole thing is built in to all accounts.

You can just sign in to wireless.att.com and change the names on each line. It takes two minutes, though it may take the land line companies a while to update their databases.
