What is the point of the .name TLD

What is the difference between john.smith.name as opposed to johnsmith.com or john.smith.com how is .name better than .com?

Eye of the beholder on its worth. The name TLD give people a chance to find an existing domain where as the odds of finding a .com with common name is about nil

If you were just a "Jane Smith" you may be very happy with the janesmith.name , and leave "Jane Smith Manufacturing" with the 'janesmith.com .
