Nanoleaf Launches New Screen Mirror Lightstrip for Mac Displays

Even in the current political atmosphere I think it's important to try and find sympathy and common ground with those who disagree.

But that said, I will absolutely judge and dismiss anyone who buys Nanoleaf, the most garishly loud symptom of end-stage capitalism humanity has ever crapped out.

You have awful taste and too much money.

<<I think that it might be annoying after awhile.>> I find that with all humans I meet ;)
If you find that with all of them then it's likely they are not the problem. :D

As for the colored LEDs behind one's monitor, I guess this appeals to the same crowd who runs colored LEDs under their car?

nanoleaf is junk.

Replaced every bulb in my house with Nano leaf bulbs. Now in the process of replacing all of them. They don't work at all (turn on) at about 10% from new. Getting past that, they're the least responsive IoT device I've ever experienced in my life.

Never again.

The best ones take an HDMI input signal, (presumably) decode it into a framebuffer, and for each segment of LEDs, select an average of colors near to the segment in the image, and can do it all in real time - with no lag to the display or signal source, because it's all handled just by watching the HDMI signal passing by.
Yes there are ones that do this too. But that’s not what the nanoleaf one does so the question still stands.

Nanoleaf is not the company it started to be. I have been troubleshooting a problem with their lights not connecting to my network for 2 months now, and they still have not done anything for me to get it to work.

I keep wondering, why do gamers/twitch streamers ALL seem to have this odd obsession with LED lighting setups? It’s all purple/bluish.

As someone else mentioned, it just helps with the over all lighting of the video. However it also draw attention and attraction. You’ll notice a lot of new apps, and phone features use these bright colored gradients because they keep people engaged. Minimalists or people trying to break a tech addiction are encouraged to take color out of their tech environment because it reduces the dopamine hits your brain gets from viewing screens. You are more easily able to get your tasks done and move on without getting distracted by something else on your phone and staying glued to it.

"With a Nanoleaf Premium subscription, there is an Orchestrator mode that provides access to different moods for music experience customization."

Ok stop right there. Why do I need a subscription to access a hardware mode?? I couldn't find anything on the Nanoleaf site that tells me what a "Premium" subscription gets me.

I was looking at this story and the price and thinking.. hey that actually isn’t a bad price for a Nanoleaf device. Thanks for snapping me back to reality. So tired of ads or subscriptions in everything. I have eliminated all ads and subscriptions from my life with the exception of cloud storage, and even that I am slowly removing with my own local backups and longer term cloud storage with lifetime cloud plans (yes I know it may not be guaranteed a lifetime). Companies that lock features built into the hardware behind subs or ads will get an autoban from my shopping list.

I can't speak to gamers, but having LEDs behind your TVs to project a slight blur against the wall really does make the TV look substantially nicer.
I was unwilling to pay Phillip's ungodly fees for Hue Sync, so I just mounted a cheapo LED strip behind my TV, with a remote I can use to change the light color when the mood strikes me. You can buy such a setup for $6 - it's ridiculously cheap to try out and see what it's like.

Would it be nicer if the lights changed to match the screen? Maybe, but I'll wait for the price of a Sync or equivalent, to come down and the compatibility to go up.
(I'm guessing the system reviewed here requires a driver running on the PC, so is not relevant to a TV?)
