That looks amazing, all it needs for a perfect match is a black ano finish. Sign up for their list and see if anyone else does the same. I would get the MB, add the drive, transition your workstation, sell the old MP, buy the new MP, finish the transition. You can prefund the big purchase and use the time in the middle to fine tune your requirements.

I agree. Problem is, from what I hear the CalDigit T2 has been "coming soon" for over a year. The T3 was announced in April of this year with pricing and availability "coming soon", and still no word.

Hopefully they're just waiting for the MP to be released!

Even if I get the T3, though, I'm thinking I should have a single or 2-bay USB 3.0 enclosure as well for additional backup. I'm somewhat paranoid about losing data, and a single point of failure makes me nervous.

For the 5big NAS Pro you can place 4 identical drives in 4 of the slots and configure them together in RAID-5; the 5th slot can be independent for your SSD or any other drive. But an SSD in a NAS application like this is wasted, performance wise. Network performance is the bottleneck, not drive performance.

Whatever you decide, keep it simple. The more boxes and connections you have, the more likely something might go awry.
