    The Thunderbolt port can be used as video output, as it is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort.

    Knowledge. Thunderbolt and mini display are the same port.

    Not completely true, Thunderbolt is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and will act as one. It doesn't work the other way around though.

    Semantics. On the 2012 Minis, which he asked about, the single port provides both outputs.
