Navigon 1.2 is out! [MERGED]

Hmmm...if they're offering text to speech in all of the European languages supported by the iPhone that could take a little while I guess. Imagine trying to come up with the Polish language pronunciations of street names in Ireland, never mind those in Hungary!

You don't even know that the Europe version was submitted. Additionally you don't know that Apple didn't find genuine bugs in that version that required correction.

Actually it makes much more sense to use existing conditions vs a generic clock change. If there's enough light to affect the light sensor then it's light enough for it to use day mode. It's not like the sensor is sensitive enough to change from headlights behind you or anything. The reason it's better to work from actual conditions is the exact reason I ran into this morning. It was overcast, essentially causing it to still be pretty much night conditions well into the time when daylight would normally be working it's way through the sky.
That said, it's not a huge issue as there isn't a dramatic difference in visibility between the day/night settings in my mind (I can easily see either setting during daytime or nighttime). I was just curious if it really is using the clock or it was meant to use the sensor and wasn't quite working right.
Is Call POI working in 1.2
I don't know if it is just on my phone or if it is a general problem, but tapping a POI on the map does not bring up the pop up to allow you to call. Is anyone else experiencing this?
One thing that is missing in all this is a decent user guide.

Battle of the mods!
Well, last night a mod took this main thread out of the Apps section (where it belongs) and moved it to the general iPhone section. Of course, another "it's out" thread sprouted back in the correct home (Apps section). Now today a mod corrects this by merging and locating it back in the rightful location. This is a game in and of itself "where's that thread?"
Thanks to whomever moved it back!

This is a great table (I've seen you post previous versions of this). I think two changes are needed:
1. Load time for Navigon: It's now about 5 seconds from what I'm seeing.
2. I would include a note about using the contacts for destinations similar to the way there's a note about the TomTom working "sometimes." Navigon definitely has some issues in this area as well.

Just used it on the same 40 mile drive I took yesterday. No question it is more accurate, it was much better at pinpointing turns. The TTS had no issues with difficult street names like Gleneagle or Sybilla!
All we need now is TRAFFIC, and route avoidance (excluding roads you hate) and this app will simply be perfect!

Actually I Kind of do.... If you check navigon's facebook page it suggests that Europe 1.2 is indeed awaiting approval like the rest were, and they additionally say it's out of their hands and are waiting on apple.

For the few folks asking about the auto-day/night mode, I recall reading that this was only based on the clock. I wonder whether there is an API for the brightness sensor data?
The TTS is great, and the voice is much more pleasant to listen too. Unlike the Garmin Nuvi I bought for someone not too long ago, the TTS is much more accurate in the Navigon app. My favorite from the Garmin Nuvi was mispronouncing "Dr" (drive) as "Doctor"! The Navigon TTS seems to have gotten that right.
I drive with the 2D view, and the road names are definitely much better than 1.1. The text seems larger and bolder. The road names are much easier to read now. I've also noticed that the auto map zoom in/out is tighter; it used to zoom out a tad too far while driving at highway speed.
As others have noted, the iPod integration is great to have, but Apple's implementation is odd. It works, though, so I can't complain too much.
Very happy with my $69.99 purchase!
Still needs traffic, text route list and route change/avoidance (something like the way Google Maps does it would be ideal). Looking forward to news from Navigon on the things coming in the next release.

My exact thoughts. During my 30mi commute into work to test the update it was (functionally) flawless. I intentionally took different routes than it was giving a couple times and it immediately recalculated with the next best route. The only 'issue', if you even want to call it that, was a couple of the TTS pronunciations were a bit wonky, but I would expect that. We have some pretty crazy street names here. 95% of the TTS was dead on.
Very impressive update and it's pretty cool to think they'll only improve it further from here! It's *almost* perfect for me now. Add a live search / POI function using 3G along with live traffic and it's all over.
used 1.2 today on a 300 mile round trip. Lovin the ipod controls that is really slick

I am in Slovakia with 1.2 Eastern Europe edition of Navigon. Yes there is such Navigon version for the iPhone, cost me 60 EURO.
And I got no TTS in either Slovakian or English. When my phone language is set to slovakian (the only way to change the navigon language which is a bummer really) there is not even the option to announce street names in navigon's prefereces.
Then again, who in their right mind would bother cross-recording all the street names in all the available languages for all the european countries, right?

Well, interestingly I think that may be due to the iPhone 3.1 update rather than navigon 1.2! I'm still waiting for the Europe update, but noticed on my drive i did today that the screen dimming problem seems to have gone since upgrading to 3.1
I haven't yet updated, but I don't recall it working that way in 1.1. Meaning, Navigon doesn't react to tapping on an POI icon, like Maps.
The call feature is given after you search for a POI in the search bar and are shown the POI location. Hope this helps.
And, yes, a decent guide would be nice.
According to Navigon's twitter feed the European version has just been approved and should be hitting the store soon.

You are probably right as the 3.1 update to the iPhone firmware also addressed the problem of the iPhone not adjusting screen brightness when being used in a dark room. That is fixed too.

While out late this afternoon I decided to test things out a bit more so had the GPS navigating the route even though I knew exactly where I was going. I had Navigon running with music playing through the iPod at the same time when my wife called. I just touched the button on my bluetooth headset, answered the call, tapped the button again when the call was over and the music & navigation automatically picked up right where they left off. A bit later I made a call by tapping the bluetooth headset button, saying the name of the person I wanted to call, and again, everything resumed automatically when the call was over. No distractions from driving, just a touch of a button next to my ear was all that was needed. This is EXACTLY what I was shooting for and now it's a reality. Great stuff!

After contemplating for a month on whether to get Tom Tom or Navigon, I took the plunge and went with Navigon. The 1.2 update finalized my decision. 😀
