i had no interest in them last year, at least not the finals. this year about 75% of the series have been very close and entertaining. guess i'm in the minority there
I haven't heard anything about the ratings being down.
according to
this USA Today article, NBA playoff ratings, at least for ABC, are up 19% compared to last year. I think clayj may have confused his feelings about the nba for other people's feelings... Or maybe he misread NBA for NHL.
Yes, a lot of series' have been close damn close. The Dallas v. san antonio series has been by far the most intense, but the the suns vs. lakers was very entertaining and dramatic as well. Other surprises: people thought cleveland v. detroit would be 5 games tops, bulls took miami to 6 games, sacramento took san antonio to 6 games.
The new NBA rules are definitely affecting the game - the suns and dallas are just not good enough defensively to ever have been a factor in the past. And as far as people being, "seriously tired of the NBA, its players, and (even) some of its owners." I don't know what clayj is referencing. I mean i can understand people not liking one owner (Mark Cuban). I still enjoy him although his egotism sometimes rails on me.
And as far as the players go, I think the vast majority of the stars in the NBA are decent people. Who are the big names in the nba now? Well here are the all-stars from this year: Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Vince Carter, Shaq, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Chris Bosh, Gilbert Arenas, Paul Pierce, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, Ray Allen, Tony Parker, Elton Brand, Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki
of that list you have maybe two or three guys who you might say have or used to have some character issues: AI, Carter and kobe... maybe rasheed wallace, but all he ever does is yell at the refs. The rest of those guys are either quiet, good citizens, or real standup guys. If you don't like watching the NBA that's fine, but you don't have to rationalize it by reinforcing an untrue stereotype. You pull up the all stars in any other league and you will find just as many if not more flawed players.
