Just paying a different troll under a different bridge. Or in this case, a multitude of trolls.

This is all just bolstering the TiVo model. We cut the cord and put an OTA antenna on the roof. We have a TiVo that’s been fully paid for a few years ago, so we just record what we want to watch and when we want to watch it. I feel like the more streaming apps we have, the more popular this will get.

Ugh we are very quickly moving back to the cable days here. Every network will have their own service. If you want everything, it will cost you the same as cable (if not more). I guess the only advantage is you aren’t forced to bundle together stuff you don’t want.

I kept telling you people. What did you think was gong to happen? That TV shows were going to get suddenly much cheaper to make, or that businesses would decide that they didn’t really need that ad revenue after all? TV is an expensive business, and it’s getting more expensive. You are always going to get bundled content whether it’s with cable or Netflix. (Why does nobody notice all the low end stuff on Netflix they’ll never watch?) They know your aren’t going to watch it all and the content makers know you aren’t going to watch it all. That’s how the price is so much lower than purchasing it all on iTunes. Truly a-la-carte TV has been available for years, and it’s really really expensive.

The important (and not irrelevant) part of this is that almost all cable internet providers have a tiered system, based on two components: speed and data usage. All of these streaming options, no doubt, will push the average cable internet subscriber to a higher tier just to be able to watch the content. So, while nearly everyone has some flavor of broadband internet service, all of these streaming subscriptions will cause you to pay more for your internet service.

This isn't true in NY. Spectrum has a flat rate with no data caps. Everyone gets 100 mbps which is fast enough for everything. People can choose higher speeds but not necessary for streaming video. I know this is also true of some of the other major broadband providers as well.

Your statement might be true for some providers but not for all.

My original point is that (for some, at least), higher tiers of broadband service increases the overall cost of all of these subscriptions.

I can't believe this hasn't been posted..
