Necessary to lift notebooks

Is it necessary to lift notebooks for heat dispersion or no?

I have not had any problems with the macbooks. The internal fan seems to do an adequate job.

No it's not but I would set it on a hard surface (table, book, wood or tile floor, etc.) as opposed to a soft surface (carpet, bedspread, lap, dirty laundry, etc.).
