Okay, I just uploaded a new zipped archive to my Armageddon BBS home page. Look at the bottom of the page for the "ASCII TrueType Font" link. It includes a Read Me file in text and PDF.

It is a little tricky, because the font does not appear in Font Book as "ASCII" when you install it. Rather, it is called "New". Weird, I know.

This is the font that I am using.

I hope this resolves your issues, but no promises. :)

Appreciate the effort, but still no dice with the new font.

There's always the balcony. :) :D

I am out of ideas to help you.

I was very hopeful that using that font would do the trick.

I am not sure what the problem is.

I did update the guide though with a mention of the "ASCII" font.

Appreciate the effort, but still no dice with the new font.

Can you do me a favor? Using the Terminal, can you please visit my BBS again? When you get to the Welcome screen, can you take a screen capture of it?

Just simultaneously hold down the command key and the shift key, and then type the number 4. This will give you the selection tool, so that you can draw a box specifically around the part of the screen that you want to capture. Please do the entire Terminal window. The image -- a PNG -- will be saved to your desktop with the invisible .png extension.

Please post the results here. I want to see exactly what you are seeing. Maybe that will give me a hint regarding what is going wrong on your end.

One other thing that occurred to me is that maybe your Terminal's preferences file has become corrupted.

You will find it in ~/Library/Preferences.

It is called "com.apple.Terminal.plist".

Why don't you put it in your trash, empty your trash, and then double-click that terminal settings file that you downloaded from my website. Let me know what happens.

I am just really mystified by this.

Also, did you install that ASCII.ttf in ~/Library/Fonts or in /Library/Fonts? It might possibly make a difference.

Works fine with iterm. See attachment.

Yuck! The colors are flat and ugly, and nothing like what it looks like in the Terminal. But to each his own. Even ugly old SyncTERM displays my BBS better than that. :D

Did you look at the five images that I posted a few hours ago?

Reading it now. I used to run a wildcat 5 BBS back in those days.. With LORD and TW2021 Door packages on it.

I briefly mention Trade Wars on that page. :) I may have played a few times. Can't remember now. Legend of the Red Dragon was another. In fact, I was drawing some graphics for a Macintosh version of the same.

Yeah.. Those were the days. That and BBS's were discovered through Word of Mouth or Simple War Dialing. Was the best treasure hunt growing up finding a new one you never been on before.

Well, I am trying to keep those days alive; at least on the Macintosh side. For all I know, I may be the last Hermes II BBS SysOp. Even Walter Bowen's "Mezzanine" BBS went down a long time ago.

I know that I am probably the only one who is likewise running the latest version of the Hermes II software, because I just compiled it myself two days ago using SheepShaver on Yosemite. :)
