hey guys... im headed to mexico in early july and wanna capture the scene cuz its a breathtaking place... isla navidad... i recommend it... back to the pt... i need a camera, gonna be my first, and dont know if i wanna get into slr because it seems complicated and expensive... you have any recommendations and pointers? i wanna be able to take a wide variety of pics and hopefully use this camera for a few years if its not slr... unless you guys think slr is the way to go? thanks

I was about to upgrade from point and shoot to slr, and then I saw the camera I now have. It's the Sony DSC-H5/B. Although not officially supported by iPhoto and Apple. I highly recommend this camera. One camera with conversion lenses available, 12x optical zoom, and the ability to shoot in auto mode, custom setting mode, and a variety of other modes including macro. It has a 3 inch screen as well, and rechargeable AA batteries, so if you don't have rechargeable one's ready, you can put in normal one's. I have had nothing but great experience with it. I am going to attach a picture I took at a Yankee game from the very top row (I have had some problems, because I want to give you full quality, and MR doesn't accept large files. I might put it on image shack). I haven't tried too much landscape with it yet unfortunately.

EDIT: I know I sound a bit like a salesman, but I have had zero problems with this camera. Also, people around here tend to not like sony. I'm not sure why, but I think it may be because of their computers. (Don't quote me on that). Here is the image I promised you in a slightly reduced quality form. From the very top of Yankee Stadium.
