I purchased the new 15" MBP, and also thought I'd be clever and buy the USB-C AV Adapter. But, the new 15" MBP needs 85W of power, and the AV Adapter only supplies 60W of power. So, I'm looking for the best way to connect my external monitor to my new Mac. External monitor has DVI and VGA inputs. I'd like to plug the fewest plugs into my Mac as possible. Also, I don't want to spend a fortune on the dongle as....

I'm also strongly considering buying the new 5K external screen when it's released in December -- incidentally, that screen will supply 85W of power to the MBP.

    So, thoughts?

Can't you plug your power brick into one of your other USB-C ports? Doesn't seem that big a hardship if you're replacing your monitor in December. Or am I missing something?

Just ended up getting a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Ends up being useful in many ways -- especially in transferring my old MacBook to the new MacBook with a thunderbolt 2 cable. Plus, it'll drive my external display.
