One of my hobbies is digital photography, and in the past 9 months I've snapped several thousand images in both .JPG and .NEF formats. All of these files were transferred with Nikon Transfer, and until recently I had Nikon Transfer set to create a new folder by sequential number like 01, 02, 03, 04, etc.. What I would like to do is run an app or automator action that would look at each of the image file dates, create folders based on those unique dates, then sort each image date into it's dated folder.

Are there any apps or actions that can do this? I've setup Nikon Transfer to create folders based on image dates instead of sequential numbers so I can avoid this problem in the future. TIA! :)

Hazel would probably do the job. You can create rules based on file dates, type, extensions, and pretty much all other specifications and move them to folders automatically. This also searches for files associated with applications when they are dragged to the trash. This makes sure no preference files are left that take up some space and cause some file clutter.
