I'm looking for an app (preferably free) that will compare two folders, show me which files are different, let me view the differences, and then finally copy the file from the left to right folder, or right to left.

Anything like this? DiffMerge is free and has a folder compare, but it won't copy files, which seems silly..

File and folder compare software?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've been using zsCompare, but for some reason it doesn't work properly anymore (hasn't been updated since 2006). On the Windows side I use FolderMatch. Surely there must be something similar on the Mac? I need to compare the contents of two folders to know if they are identical or not.

Thanks.

Not free, but Chronosync is excellent.

I already use Retrospect for drive and folder synchronization, but I need an app that will compare two folders and give me a result of the possible differences. Preferably the UI would be split in two sections, with folder 1 on the left side and folder two on the right. Can Chronosync do this? It seems more like a synchronization utility?

I use Beyond Compare on the Windows side.
I've been pestering the developer to do a OS X port.
So if you have Parallels ...

Unfortunately I'm having issues with internal drives on a PowerMac G5 so I can't use any Windows software. And they're in RAID 0, so I can't move them to a PC either. If I could, I already own FolderMatch, which is an excellent Windows utility that does exactly what I want.

Any other suggestions? Surely there must be a Mac utility out there for this?

Actually DiffMerge is coming along nicely. The dev is updating it slowly, eventually it will move/copy files in folder sync mode.

I think people are misunderstanding this thread a bit.

I'm not looking for a drive/folder sync app. I'm looking for a diff tool (for programmers). One that will compare two files and show the differences, AND also compare two folders, show which files differ, and allow me to see those differences as well as copy files left->right or right->left.

I know what you mean.... Such a basic functionality should be implemented in the OS... at least on the file/folder level in finder, with code it would be even better of course.

This is a MAJOR feature I miss from TotalCommander in Windows...

Sorry to bump a three year old thread, but I also need something like zsCompare. I remember using it in 2005 or so, but the app has long been abandoned and the developer is seemingly out of business.

Any suggestions would be wonderful.
